a random boss from a chest dropped rod of recall, how?

i'm trying to get the achievement for killing urkis to force him to drop the rod of recall, it's somehow harder than i thought since levels are hard to get, whatever, i had a promising character who cleared all tier 1 and tier 2 dungeons except bosses and approached to venture into the tempest peak when suddenly some chest spawn dropped rod of recall. it's very disappointing and it basically means i should delete the character now. just how? how i can know who drop rod of recall now? i killed troll hedge wizard and he didn't drop the rod and some random unique did ><

It wasn't a Unique that dropped the Rod, it was a Boss.

The RandBoss generator that the chest uses can make the enemy either Unique OR Boss rank, and boss ranks, as you've found out, drop the rod.
