Monoliths and Cultists in Daikara?

#1 Post by NemesisZeru »

Just wanna ask before I do something potentially stupid by killing the cultists to see what happens. xP

not sure precisely how it works, but i encountered them the other day.

At one point a timer started, i think it was when one of them got killed by a mob or something, and when the timer ran out, some demon woman spawned. IIRC she primarily did fire damage, and wasnt that tough to begin with, but then out of the blue she did some meteor shower thing that killed me instantly. I'd recommend getting some fire and physical resists before fighting her, or staying out of meteor range, maybe kite her with dots or something.

After the timer started, i tried killing some of the cultists, and each time, one of the monoliths started glowing, im guessing something different happens if you manage to kill enough of them before the time runs out.

good luck :D

That meteor thing can hit immensely hard. Like +1000 points hard.

Killing one does start a timer after which a boss spawns. The more cultists you kill before the timer runs out the weaker the boss and the wise the reward, so for the best reward kill just one cultist and wait.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

Fire/Physical resistances and a good mental/magic save (or an infusion that cures these) are a must when dealing with the boss.

It's perfectly possible to kill her with the right character and some luck at a very early level if playing the Infinite dungeon. I've done it before on the first floor with an Archmage and an Alchemist, but if she decides to use the meteor storm, you'll be squashed to paste.

Ooooh....is that the Crown of Burning Pain lady? I always thought that was what happened if you let Melinda die. x3

I'll go back when I'm a bit stronger, then.

With my lucky Voratun drop(which has 45% damage conversion to fire), that item might actually really work for me if it isn't arcane(My first antimagic character. x3 )

Could someone post the stats for the Crown of Burning Pain? I want to know if I want to take the risk losing lives fighting this boss :P

At max stats (only one cultist killed,) it's +13 defense, +6 WIL/CUN, +35% fire damage/resist

hahaha, i thought it would make her weaker, not stronger. i met her recently, accidentally killed one cultist with aoe, left the level and returned much later (it was reknor so the second plot visit) and was very surprised when i got achievement and the drop, i thought it was some fluke or something

All this talk about being insta-killed by her has me really concerned about trying her out.

If I went for it, I'd want the Crown... but I value the life of my level 26 Bulwark a ton. Is she like a 3k hitpoint insta-kill behemoth of death? Or should a simple Run / Block / choppity chop with a tier 5 sword make quick work of her?

Does fire protection work against the meteorite of death?

I try not to spoil myself too much, but after barely surviving level 1 of the Dark Crypt (and eventually emerging alive), I'm hesitant.

The damage is fire + physical.
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

You learn by dying.
So if you don't go die somewhere, you have wasted that character. :)
