What does STR do for Archers

All the bow using classes say I need Strength but why?

Bow damage is based on 70% DEX and 50% STR. Check your quiver.

Also, STR give physical power, which improves the chance of some of your debuff attacks sticking. (if they use it)
And physical power also improves the damage of any weapon.

Yep, it adds to all weapon damage, plus unarmed. Doesn't do anything for Gesture of Pain, though.
