Some dumb questions...

#1 Post by Ajido »

1) I only started playing yesterday, but I found a dungeon in the Lake of Nur, when I enter it, it has water for a floor and clicking to move around doesn't seem to work, I click and it either doesn't move or moves me to someplace I didn't actually click. Is this a bug or the nature of the dungeon?

2) Is there a way to disable achievement messages in the chat, so I can see actual chat discussions going on, and can I resize the chat UI to see more as well?

3) I've heard this game is quite moddable and such, are there any highly recommended mods I should check out, and are there any websites devoted to that kind of thing?

4) Where can I find different tilesets for the game to figure out which I like? Though the default isn't too bad.

5) Lastly, the concept of attack speed confuses me a bit in this game. I was under the impression that each action takes one turn. What exactly does attack speed do then?

Thanks for any help, really enjoying this game even though I'm a complete noob =)

Mouse movement may be weird down there, you may have to click-move one tile at a time. I'm not sure how well the game takes to the pathed mouse movemet when you can't breathe due to water. If that doesn't help, move off the keyboard in there. If that still doesn't help, then I'm not sure what to do about it. Not a quirk of the dungeon though, you should be able to move normally.
2) Is there a way to disable achievement messages in the chat, so I can see actual chat discussions going on, and can I resize the chat UI to see more as well?
Yes, in the options menu, there's something for filtering chat. You can set achievements to appear always, only if important (achievements marked in yellow, like winning the game, hitting level 50, beating athamathon, and other 'impressive' ones), or not at all.
Resizing chat is also doable. In the far bottom right of your screen is a stack of 4-5 small buttons. (they do things like open menu, quest log, lore, etc.) The bottommost one looks like a padlock. Click it to unlock the interface, and then right click and drag to resize elements. (like your chatlog.) Left click and drag to move around. Lock the interface again when you're done.
3) I've heard this game is quite moddable and such, are there any highly recommended mods I should check out, and are there any websites devoted to that kind of thing?
Errr... This one? All addon's are stored on te4.org (and some on steam as well, but not every mod-developer has steam). As for which ones to start wit, if you're new,it's not necesarily the best idea to pick up a bunch right away. A lot of the class ones are fairly complex, and you'd want to be a bit more familiar with the game before picking them up. That said, if you really want to chase after a few, I recommend Arcanum classpack, Nullpack, Newgems, and infinite500.
4) Where can I find different tilesets for the game to figure out which I like? Though the default isn't too bad.
Currently, there's only the default, and one addon one which is far enough behind to create some quirks. (it's oldrpg if you want to look for it.) Someone is tentatively making another one, but there aren't many options for tilesets, currently.
5) Lastly, the concept of attack speed confuses me a bit in this game. I was under the impression that each action takes one turn. What exactly does attack speed do then?
It's eaiser to think of it in terms of energy. Attack speed reflects how much of a turn it takes for you to make an attack. If you have 60% attack speed, it only takes 60% of a turn to make an attack. This isn't enough to get extra attacks each turn, but every few. Similarly, you can get 120% attack speed, meaning it takes 120% of a turn to attack. This means every 5 attacks an enemy can (theoretically) squeeze in that extra hit.

Conversely, movement speed and global speed work the opposite way, reflecting how MUCH energy you get per turn. With them, higher numbers are better, rather then worse. Yes this is counterintuitive, but you get used to it.

With regards to mods, I can't believe you didn't mention the Zomnibus! Who doesn't use that? (That question is rhetorical)

I think you're referring to the wavy design of the place. If you are, you have my sympathies. It took me a while to figure out where to click and even now I sometimes screw it up. You're honestly better off using a num-pad if you have one.
3) I've heard this game is quite moddable and such, are there any highly recommended mods I should check out, and are there any websites devoted to that kind of thing?
Yes! You can go to te4.org and click on the Addons button. Alternatively, if you're on Steam, you can grab addons in the traditional way by browsing the workshop. If you're going to use both, make sure that you don't duplicate addons.
4) Where can I find different tilesets for the game to figure out which I like? Though the default isn't too bad.
If the ones in-game don't tickle your fancy (Shockbolt and ASCII), Crim had some excellent suggestions. Though because of how it all works, I think the tiles for this game are a pain in the ass to make.
5) Lastly, the concept of attack speed confuses me a bit in this game. I was under the impression that each action takes one turn. What exactly does attack speed do then?
Yeah, you and me both. Basically, for combat, lower is better/faster. For everything else, higher is better/faster. No, I don't know why it's like that. Yes, we've got something in the Ideas forum to fix it.

Hey, we've all got to start somewhere...
And it was such a good idea...

Wavy Design? Is this a shader effect? It's just simple static tile images for me, but then I have no shaders. If it is a shader issue, could you turn them off, move through (with reboot if necessary) then turn back on afterwards?

Maybe you could take a screenshot of what you're looking at so I have a better of what you're asking.
And it was such a good idea...

I believe the issue is the water effect shader in Lake nur, which makes the visual of the tiles not match up properly with the clickable area.
