Re: Dumb questions thread
When darkgod declares a bug "fixed," he means it's fixed in the SVN. The change won't propagate to the end users until the next release. You could play the SVN version, if you want to try out the bugfixes and give feedback on them before the next release.

Really dumb question (mostly because I don't want to sift through 57 pages of questions). How does one delete saved characters? Like I've still got my 2 tutorial saves from when I first started playing this version.
And it was such a good idea...

Re: Dumb questions thread
This is the dumbest question to have asked but I am a noob so w/e here goes-
Is there a way to play the game TOME without permadeath where its just like a regular rpg/roguelike without the permadeath?
I know its stupid to ask but the only reason I do is because I don't mind playing a rl with permadeath, but if the reports are clear, this is a long long rogue like and don't want to lose all that handwork after a 50-hour game. I was told by someone that you can pay for a version of that no permadeath. I may be a coward but it is what it is

Re: Dumb questions thread
Check out this page to learn how to enable cheats. Once you do that, you can play either by saving (ctrl-s) and reloading (ctrl-alt-shift-r), or just play with an infinite number of lives.deathknight1728 wrote:This is the dumbest question to have asked but I am a noob so w/e here goes-

Exploration mode (infinite lives) is one of the bonuses of donating. http://te4.org/donatedeathknight1728 wrote:... and don't want to lose all that handwork after a 50-hour game. I was told by someone that you can pay for a version of that no permadeath. I may be a coward but it is what it is

Re: Dumb questions thread
The game is balanced around Adventure mode, which gives you a set number of lives. Be warned that if you go with Explorer mode, you could end up masking a poor build with by repeatedly resurrecting yourself until you get to the point where you can't make any progress.
Re: Dumb questions thread
I haven't tried many, but I defiantely recommend the library bugfix. It's almost mandatory if you want to unlock necromancer.Yumm wrote:What are the best add-ons to get?

Re: Dumb questions thread
It's possible to play the in-development version if you want to take advantage of the fixes early. Be warned, though, that since it's currently labelled 1.0.1, it'll break all your addons.

Re: Dumb questions thread
I'll heavily recommend the infinite500 addon, as it remarkably improves the infinite dungeon, as well as allowing the level cap to be lifted when entering the infinite dungeon from the main campaign after entering the main game. (Without it, you only get the level cap removed when STARTING in the infinite dungeon.)Dragatus wrote:I haven't tried many, but I defiantely recommend the library bugfix. Beyond that, I recommend Zomnibus for the variety of useful tweaks (extracting gems from an item in inventory screen instead of talent bar via rightclick for instance, a talent point planner, and a variety of other thing), though I had isues getting my 512 MB of ram to run it well. Failing that, All his add-on's in it are also available individually, though it's easier on a computer to run the compilation as a single addon then to run several side by side.
A lot of folks prefer the new tileset added by the oldrpg addon, but it's a purely cosmetic change that you may or may not prefer.
There are also some interesting class mods going around, but some are kinda unbalanced. It's up to you to decide which are worth taking a look at. (And remember to offer FEEDBACK on anything you do decide to play. People make these addon's out of there spare time, and our thanks are all the reward they get!)
Currently playing under the name Aura of the Dawn 4 down, 227 to go!

Re: Dumb questions thread
Is there at some point an opportunity to learn skill categories that aren't listed at your initial character creation? For example, any reason for my Shalore Archmage to keep carrying around this bow and arrow?
Also, I know there's no house, but I take that to mean there's never a place to leave stuff and come back to it?
Thanks!

Re: Dumb questions thread
Yes, that is possible, training is available in archery and armour in Last HopeMacFarlane wrote:Is there at some point an opportunity to learn skill categories that aren't listed at your initial character creation? You will eventually find a 'house' where you can store stuff.MacFarlane wrote:Also, I know there's no house, but I take that to mean there's never a place to leave stuff and come back to it?

Re: Dumb questions thread
In addition to the Last Hope training madmonk mentions, there are three other ways:MacFarlane wrote:Is there at some point an opportunity to learn skill categories that aren't listed at your initial character creation? - Many escort quests offer a skill category as a possible reward
- The Worldly Knowledge prodigy (click on "prodigies" on the level-up screen to see it) lets you learn a skill category from a list
- Keep exploring the world and completing quests, and you will find a couple of unique sources of skill categories as well
Edit: In the upcoming version 1.0.1, a couple of other towns will also teach certain weapon specialisations.
Note that you can also leave items in vaults (the special mini-areas that ask you to open a locked door to enter them), and they won't disappear.MacFarlane wrote:Also, I know there's no house, but I take that to mean there's never a place to leave stuff and come back to it?
P.S. I know they told you at graduation that a long, thin piece of wood is the Archmage weapon of choice for obliterating enemies at range, but I'm not sure this is what they meant. (that and bows work off Str/Dex, stats your Archmage won't have unless you're making a specialised build)
