Actually, Torokasi on the IRC channel checked the code, and apparently these days it's a 20 point difference for everything.lukep wrote:It is compared to the attack power, with a difference of 10 points meaning 100% or 0% chance of applying. For example, an enemy with 35 physical power could land a stunning blow 100% of the time against a target with 25 physical save, 50% of the time with 35% save, and 0% of the time with 45 save.yabluchko wrote:How do saving throws work? Are they simply compared with power of attack, or it is more complex?
Accuracy and defense checks are similar, but it's a 20 point difference for those.

Slime damage does nature damage whilst also slowing the enemy. It's a very powerful and useful effect on a weapon or missile.

How do I create an online login? There's no "register" option; typing in a name and password without an account gives me "check your login info" messagebox.
Is this something you need to donate to be able to do? I want to donate, although if I can't login to take advantage of that donation, I'm a little less excited about it.

So I have a problem where as the game moves on, I have so many abilities in my bar that it takes up a lot of space, obscuring enemies a lot. Is there a way to make it so the screen centers on my character even when he's at the edge of the game map, and/or a way to make the bar partially transparent?

On the right-hand side, there's a "Create new account" link. You can log in then, so long as you're connected to the net.

There's a button to toggle the UI on and off (check Key Bindings). It's not a great solution, but it's the only one I can think of.fwoop wrote:So I have a problem where as the game moves on, I have so many abilities in my bar that it takes up a lot of space, obscuring enemies a lot. What are the effects, pros and cons of high/low global speed?
I'm currently playing a Solipsist nuke with a slight global speed bonus, and as far as I can tell, all it means it extra turns of standing around not being able to do anything because my abilities are taking longer to cool down. What am I missing?
Also, do you get a global speed bonus from having green rather than yellow encumbrance? If not, what effect does it have?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Encumbrance color's just a visual cue you're getting close to max. There's no mechanical change because of it.
There is no con to high global speed. The effects of high global are getting to act more often than things with lower global speed. What you're experiencing in a sort of time dilation effect, amusingly enough. Your talents aren't cooling down any slower, you're just getting to act more before a turn ticks over. If you had more active abilities, you'd be able to use more before the enemy (providing they have a lower global speed, anyway) gets to act. Low global speed's the opposite. You end acting less per turn than normal -- which may mean it occasionally takes multiple turns to perform a single action, allow enemies to double [or worse] move on you.
Global speed is one of the holy grail stats, t'be honest. If you can get more without sacrificing too much, you want more. Period.
In any case, give the forum a search for speed at some point. There's some more detailed explanations of the speed system running around. It's actually not terribly complicated, but it does often seem somewhat obtuse when you're initially getting familiar with T4.

Re: Dumb questions thread
The most confusing thing about how speed is indicated in ToME is that it's inconsistent.
Short summary: you accumulate energy per internal game clock tick, and when your energy reaches the threshold level, you get to act.
Global speed: you want a high percent. The global speed indicated by the game is how much energy you gain per tick, so it'll take you fewer ticks before you're ready to act.
Weapon attack speed: you want a low percent. The speed shown on a weapon is how much energy you expend to attack with this weapon. The less you spend, the fewer ticks it will take you to get back up to the threshold where you can act again.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Is there a way to group inscriptions/runes by type? e.g. wild, teleportation, regeneration, etc.
Re: Dumb questions thread
Where? In your menu, everything is done by type (infusions, then inscriptions), then alphabetically. So a sneak's teleport rune will come before a wizard's regeneration one despite the fact that regeneration comes before teleport ("r" before "t") because the class name is first in the item name ("S" before "W".) On the toolbar, you can right-click, hold down, and move the icon around, or you can just go to "m" and assign the hotkeys so the similar types are adjacent to each other.Omega Blue wrote:Is there a way to group inscriptions/runes by type? e.g. wild, teleportation, regeneration, etc.
Re: Dumb questions thread
It is. My forum account is much older than my game account, for instance. The forum accounts date back to a time well before ToME was doing anything online in-game.Omega Blue wrote:Apparently that account is separate from the forum one...Hunter wrote:nate wrote:How do I create an online login? Re: Dumb questions thread
I am wondering if there is a way to group, say, all regeneration infusions, so I can compare all of them at once, regardless whether they are regular, wizard's, sneak's, etc.Hunter wrote:Where?
