experience with sleep solipsist after nerf

#1 Post by sofocles »

Hi, my first post in the forums.

Ive been playing my yeek solipsist until lvl 50 in highpeak one where i encountered a bone golem that has proven to be too tough for me... so cant beat him... i can damage him up to 50% but while i escape to heal he heals himself too so..

The key thing is of course sleep resistance... I invested heavily in all 3 sleep trees, nightmare being the best so all 4 skills 5/5 .. then on the psionic/psychic assault tree starting with mind sear but in end game going all 5/5 except synaptic static

also tried psionic mentalism but, besides exploring and some tough places full of archers i see little point in using it.

having found no big problem to get to lvl 50 and high peak

Maybe if i had gotten a 100% increase in mind damage or very high crit chance it might be doable..

the thing is... if sleep is not an option i loose my 2 biggest weapons, nightmare and dreamscape..< which btw i found less useful than i thought

any ideas? roll new character?

Hi and welcome!

If you can't kill a High Peak guardian (or if you think they are too dangerous to fight), then you may skip them and go to the next level.

Indeed, in the case of my winning yeek solipsist, I skipped all of the guardians save one just to save time and went up as soon as I found the stairs. At this point, I was reasonably okay with my item loadout. Could've gotten better in some slots, but I felt I was performing well already.

The high peak stair guardians tend to be particularly tough. The final bosses you should be able to handle if you've made it this far--sleep and the whole Nightmare tree work rather well on them.

Died by moving 3 or 4 times in a row and getting ambushed by some high lvl drakes  ... should have pressed z
Oh well...
Hey how does hammer and dream forge perform compared to all sleep ?
My mindstars werent bad but neither were they awesome...
Can anybody explain me how to "predict " the effect of combining 2 mindstars?
got to around +50% mind damage and -50% to mind resist... feel i could have gotten different results
3/5 solipsism enough.... though i got into solipsism a few times if it had ben 2/5 i would have probably died more.

Ive got a few questions?
DOes the prodigy of mind tiranny reduce -30% resist? if so , is it said in the character sheet?
If i use the hammer after mind tiranny is the dmg mind dmg? and if so does the +% mind dmg apply? Been checking items and very few actually have high +% physicial dmg, so this might be a good idea.

I've never gotten much of anything out of the hammer. Psychic Assault covers the direct damage-dealing better. Dream Forge can be helpful, though. The first two talents make you even tankier, while the Forge Bellows gives you a nice AoE that also blocks enemy LOS. I never got much out of the last skill (aside from the great feeling of satisfaction from watching my enemies die while I literally sit around doing nothing).

The mindstar sets are listed in the wiki.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. Is this about the resist penetration? Because normally resist penetration effectively reduces an enemy's resistance multiplicatively. For instance, if an enemy has 50% mind resist (including resist all), then Mental Tyranny makes it so that your attacks act like the enemy only has 35% mind resist. Zero and negative resistances are unaffected.

Mental Tyranny converts all your damage to mind damage. Hammer, Dreamforge, activated items, everything. Whenever the game says "[PC Name] hits [target] for X [type] damage," that type will always be mind damage, regardless of how you dealt it. That means that any bonus you have to mind damage applies to all damage you do, and that bonuses to other damage types are irrelevant. It also means that enemies can reduce all your damage with their mental saves (the drawback to mind damage), so be careful.

Yes, with a Mental Tyranny build you want crazy high mindpower to help reduce the odds of them making saves. But you can really pile on the mind damage bonuses. My winner had +75%, for an example, and it's possible to get higher.

Second attemp. Currently lvl 41, 1 death (cross fingers) solipsist yeek
Decided to go hammer (maxing now) and forge (maxed lvl4 rest at 1) this time. Left sleep skills (all sleeps in lvl 1) to minimun except nightmare->maxed lvl 2 and 4 so sleep is basicly to get the bonus to dmg from nightmare lvl 4 skill.

Found out mental tirany had to be activated LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.....
did 3 bodyguard missions to get +12 to mental .. have 2 points on solipsism balance.
solipsism (lvl1) 3/5 going to leave it there

still to max some skills probably wont have enough lvls.
Got 2 lvls in mindstar weapon from 2 bodyguard quests... Does that bonus stack with the hammer? Should it?... maybe it was overkill but they have "look cool" bonus :)

Not sure what to think about psionic/mentalism... just no points to place anywhere so rising number 1 (passive) to increase mindpower bonus...
?whats a reasonable mind power endgame?

90-100. You need 95+ to take Atamathon.

Sleep (namely, nightmare) is great, but you can't rely on it only. It's more a crowd control thing than actual killer.
I recommend disruption tree as a primary late-game offensive.

I think you mean Distortion. I"ve cleared the game, and beaten Atamathon with nothing in Distortion. High mindpower and mental save reducing talents are what matters against the toughest bosses.
