is unlocking Bone actually worth it?
as said above. for a category point you can also just get a Stormshield that will nullify 7-8 attacks as oppossed to 4, and you also have to spend 8 class points on top of it. or is it time based as you dont really get a Stormshiled so early on?

Your question conflates an accessment of the tree and its cost w/ a rune and its cost.
This is a false comparison.
The value that you get - or don't get - from any element in the game cannot be isolated this way.
The value that you might get or not get from the Bone tree is completely different from the value you might get or not get from a Stormshield.
When you've played several characters both ways you'll understand.
It doesn't really work to try and read the description of talents/eq etc.. and infer value, these things have to be used to be understood.
