doombringers and demonologist discussion

#1 Post by anathema »

Curious what people think of the new classes. are they strong, weak, fun, boring?

Personally i found the doombringer extremely strong early on, but im having some trouble past lvl 20.
Also i noticed that burning hex counts as a burn, and since devouring flames can restore up to 6 vim per turn (might actually be more eventually, seems to scale with level), that means you can sustain fearscape for a very long time (you lose 10 vim per 20 turn cycle).

Mostly just wanna hear what you guys think of them :)

if you keep playing as doombringer you will unlock the demonologist, i think its around lvl 20, maybe earlier. its a quest that activates on its own

My Dwarf doombringer with melee focus is pretty powerful, but I'm using shield/teleport runes as defenses, since the class doesn't seem to offer than many. I have died to a couple of one-shots though... typical.

I would be interested to compile sources of burns somewhere--I went physical damage purely out of confusion with regards to what would and wouldn't synergise. Shalore doombringer gets really strong the way shalore does, allowing some 12 turns of destroyer at high global speed, in the fearscape. If you fail to kill your target before the end (you won't) you still have Flame of Urh-Rok as a backup, too, making the Doombringer a more effective fearscape user than corruptor in my opinion. In any case, I'm having a ton of fun, just returned from the east, and fearscaping boss after boss. Does fearscape work on the final bosses I wonder? Since it fails on the Master and the Pale Drake...

the burn mechanic is a bit confusing to me so far. burning hex works for devouring flames, but not for inferno nexus (or what its called, 3rd tier, next to devouring flames), and i dont know about blazing rebirth yet.
might be worth it to get a heat beam rune just to activate inferno nexus, if that works.

i've experimented a bit with a staff caster doombringer, and it seems like it would be very powerful once you get enough vim to sustain spamming stuff.

I'm having a bit of trouble keeping the Vim tank full. I only see four ways to generate Vim and so many ways to spend it.

-Leveling up refills your Vim
-Standard killing for any defiler nets you some Vim
-Devouring Flames seems pretty modest
-The locked Wrath tree has +Vim on kill

obviously I have to make Devouring flames work for me...It just isn't working out so well.

Edit: Totally missed Draining Assault. Thought it was just for healing. Well there ya go.

Yes, the doombringer class is really strong. Finished the Master without a sweat and killed all the orcs in the ambush within 6 turns. :D

I found it quite squish though. I had all five infusion slots at level 20 on my cornac doombringer. 2 regen + 1 healing + 1 biting gale + 1 physical infusion + premonition + sunbro healing = smash everything in the face. vor armory has never been so easy. currently back in maj'eyal.

edit: all the passive skills and sustains are great. Leveled all pre-unlocked passives and most sustains to max levels(except the last general tree) and the only active skills I like to use are the one that refill vim, the one that grabs enemy to you and rush. :P

I have YET to unlock either of them (though I'm 90% + sure I know how that will happen), but I wanted to ask: Does the Doomelf race synergize particularly well with either Doombringers or Demonologists?

(I hope so, but thematic race+class builds don't always work that well sadly)

EDIT: As for Doombringer itself, they look very offensive-focused to me, which has been fairly fun, although I'm still in the lower levels.

i dont think doomelf synergizes particularly well with either doombringer or demonologist, one of its abilities does synergize with darkness damage though, so you would be looking at shadowblade, necromancer or anorithil i guess

For a sword and shield using class the Demonologist is very fragile compared to the Doombringer

They could probably do with a locked tree that adds a summoning ability and buffs the demons in general

Currently working on Elementals. It's a big project, so any help would be appreciated. :)

I hit a brick wall as I went to the east at lvl 28. Up till then it was mostly a breeze. But in the east enemies and ambushes hit me really hard! My HP bleeds to fast.
* I recommend a few points in Rush. Rush & a normal attack kills most normal enemies and gives vim.
* I recommend some points in Pacification Hex - it cant be resisted.
* Have not used or understood Corruption/ Oppression tree...
* Surge of Power is nice.
* Fearscape shift is cool (hrm, hot)
* Abduction kills most.

Is Flames of Uhrok + Fearscape actually worth it as a Doombringer btw? I'm not sure it is is, because of the Vim cost...sure, I can refil my Vim, but Doombringer has quite a few sustains that lower your max Vim AND I don't think you can get ones that raise it to counter that, like Corruptors/Reavers...
