For those who like to make use of zig-zag tunnels (or around corners or in narrow corridors), the Necromancer has a very helpful defensive combo:
1. Dread
2. Neverending Peril
3. Recall Minions
The gist is simple: Recall Minions doesn't just teleport your minions back to you. It DISPLACES any enemy next to you. Then, Neverending Peril grants up to 10 (or more) turns of total immunity for a Dread.
So... make a zig-zag tunnel and retreat into it. When an enemy gets close to, Recall Your Dread and use Neverending Peril. Now you're out of sight of the enemy and largely safe. Given that the Necro has a ton of area effect abilities, this lets you blast away while generally safe.
Considering that Insane and Madness require tools that let you mitigate huge amounts of damage, this combo is as good as almost any in the game.
