DC is the devil. I pretty much never do that zone on my insane runs.

It's very fun, try it.
Sometimes require good amount of calculations and precise execution, but it's fun.

What I like in DC is you need to prepare for it, thus it's a frame in which you need to build your char and game route.
It gives a goal instead of just lazyly leveling up your char in comfortable places.

Loved this. Died twice in the final battle, but otherwise smooth sailing. I actually liked setting out the beam trap and wandering away while it hit them for a while. With Serpentine Cloak, Mystical Cunning and Adept, had poison up to 3.44. Ended up at 105 for stealth.

Hi! Here a newbie player (i bought ToME years ago, but im into now)

I have tested some guides, and this is simply awesome. Smooth progression and i have understood a lot of gameplay mechanics. But i have a question...

When u get prodigies, you must accomplish some requirements. For example, in Mystical Cunning you need 50 magic, or in Armor of Shadows, 50k darkness damage. But i have seen the final build of OP, and he has 24 Magic. How can i get prodigies without requirements? Am i losing something?

Thx by your guide anyway. It has gotten that i love ToME \o/

Prodigies (and most other things, really) care about your current stats, not your baseline, and very few things stop working if you lose the requirements after you learn the talent or put on the equipment. Nevermind 26 or so, getting 40+ magic (or whatever) on your equipment by the time you can get your first (or definitely your second) prodigy is generally pretty trivial if you're trying for it. Just keep an eye out for items that significantly boost your magic and you'll probably be fine.

Just pointing out that stacking stats from gear like this is harder on normal difficulty.

Thx dudes. I wiil try it, but its almost 30 points in equipment... Suppose like say tabs, in Normal is hard to get that amount. Maybe the same to darkness damage. I only get crap mindstars with that kind of damage, so arrive to 50k is a dream.

I have arrived Master for first time! Again, so funny build.

I play almost exclusively on normal difficulty :P

It's usually not that hard to get +20-30 by your first prodigy, or +40 or better by your second. You do have to keep an eye out, and maybe murder some adventurer parties or do some farportal runs, but most of the time I don't have much trouble pulling it off if I'm trying for it. It's downright easy if you're doing fun stuff like the randboss rando add-on or somethin', too, heh, but it's doable enough even without leaning on rares or randarts.

Well, i have killed the Master with a restarted rogue.

Its simply insane. Brutal damage, enemies cant target me, a lot of reduction damage protection,... I fell almost cheating. And at the exit of Dreadfell... well, orc breeze in my face. Easy achievement, when i feel that fight is made to kill you.

Crazy. I dont know if any other character is so broken (i only have played fighters by now) but my kudos for OP. Perfect build, recommended for new players like me.

Armor of Shadows: This is kind of the peanut butter to the jelly of the build. Your'e ALWAYS on an unlit tile, although getting some darkness damage to your attacks isn't too hard with gear.
One requirement for this is "Have dealt over 50,000 darkness damage". What kind of gear did you used for this? I can't find any appropriate stuff for my level 35 rogue.

I would recommend equipping a weapon or gloves with added darkness melee damage and just hit the training dummy for a while.

That was the solution, thanks a lot. I had completely missed the possibility of dealing damage to the training dummy.

OK, I've come up against the same problem that a few people mentioned upthread, namely, getting Magic 50 to qualify for the Mystical Cunning prodigy when I hit level 25 (which just happened in the Ruined Dungeon). I never bothered to read the description of 'Mystical Cunning' until now, which of course led me back to this thread in despair :-)

I have Magic 13, and I can (at least temporarily) wear gear to get me another +15, for a total of 28 Magic. But I honestly don't know where +22 more points are going to come from. I wasn't saving Magic gear through this playthrough (which is on Normal Difficulty). The stuff in my item vault doesn't have it either.

Does anyone following this build have a suggestion of an alternate prodigy to take? (Armor of Shadows requires Constitution 50, another near impossibility of +28 needed!)

Right now I have the following unlocked:
Adept
Elemental Surge
Flexible Combat
Eye of the Tiger
Swift Hands
Rak'Shor's Cunning
Windblade
Worldly Knowledge

But none of these seem that great for this build. Any suggestions for this awesome Halfling Rogue with poison/stealth? :-)

I was building this same thing and was wondering what escorts to take, I'm kinda sad you didn't talk more in-depth about that, but I'm glad to see I was in the right path, and there's a lot of overlap between my nightmare build, and that of an insane winner.

btw, If you're the real graystillplays, big fan. But I'm afraid you'd probably be sad about drowning npc's getting removed, if not, then hello fellow fan of systematic osha violations.

Very capable build, but boring and irritating to play whole game with wistle of thrwowing knive, and loud whistle of fan of knives, twho also miss a lot due them being projectiles.
