[v1.7.0+] Gunsnixed

#1 Post by Zizzo »

A Steam user requested an addon to remove Gunsnake. Having already given similar treatment to worms that walk and the Forest Troll Hedge-Wizard, I feel qualified to step in. I don't anticipate using this heavily myself (my few encounters with it so far have been tricky but not overly harrowing), but for those who really can't deal with the li'l blighter, I offer my new Gunsnixed addon.

[And no, this isn't going into ZOmnibus. ]

What's the issue with the Gunsnake? I've never had much problem with it, but, then, I don't recall encountering t before mid-to-late game. Have I just been getting lucky with the builds I had?

(Also, the Forest Troll Hedge Wizard is awesome -- I don't recall if I've ever gotten the Rune of Reflection from any other source.)

I think the main issue is that it inherits snakes' increased speed, so you basically have a fast gunslinger shooting at you a lot. As I said, when I've run into it before, I just needed to be a little more careful then usual, but the original request on the Steam forum literally said, "I may be willing to pay actual money to have a mod made that removes the gunsnake from the game", so…

Absolutely it is — in Daikara, or maybe Reknor. Not in frickin' Trollmire. Hedge Clipper doesn't actually remove the Hedge-Wizard; it just bumps its minimum spawn level up to 15. We Apologize for the Confusion.™

Okay, that explains it. On most of my builds, I'm a huge fan of speed, even at the expense of some other metrics, so by the time I encounter the Gunsnake, I'm usually very fast myself, so the Gunsnake's speed isn't a major worry for me.

Point taken. I do have to do a lot of pillar dancing with him most of the time to wait for his shield to turn off so I can safely hit him again. And while he's nowhere near my top killer in that zone -- that would probably be cave trolls with stun -- I've certainly died at his grubby paws more than once. I do like lucking into the Rune of Reflection in early game, but I can see putting him off. What's the add-on name? The search function on add-ons page is really, really bad.

(I've also seen him exactly once in Norgos Lair. I've been playing for a long time and that was the only instance I recall seeing him outside of Trollmire. I'm not even sure if that was a bug or not. It wasn't too long ago, maybe a year, year and a half, so it was a reasonably modern version of ToME.
