Idea for add-on: Multiple Characters

#1 Post by okok111 »

This is a suggestion for an addon, and one that probably won't be implemented but would be interesting nevertheless.
The idea is simple: The ability to get more characters to play as in one game via quests/shops or a setting at the start of a game (perhaps you could go through the "birth" screen for each character). These characters WOULD be able to use skill points (They'd work in a somewhat similar method to alchemist golems) and the game's difficulty would scale to fit (more monsters or stronger ones). You'd be able to keep a 'stable' of characters which you could make withdrawals or deposits from at villages (or perhaps a menu when you're in the world map). Not only would this add more strategy (how can I use this character to support this one) but it would allow for 'hot seat' multiplayer (One person uses one character, another uses another character, etc.)
I understand this would require a RIDICULOUS amount of code, and perhaps that's why I'm suggesting it here (I'm not all that skilled with lua). Either way, if anybody wishes to take this up, feel free to modify the ideas within. I understand there is the hireable companions mod, but that doesn't quite allow the same things that this would. Feel free to post ideas about how this idea could be refined (but please don't post "ERMAHGERED NO MORE CHARS THIS DONT FIT GAME!!!??!! Y U SO STUPID!!" replies).
Thanks for your time guys, have a great day.

I agree. Not enough party-based roguelikes out there. I think this might fit a bit better as a completely seperate Module though and not an addon.

Anyone wana make a Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord module?! We get to go up to town and swap characters. Yay.
