[1.1.5] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 8)

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Doublepost/bump for Ambush survival! Came close to dying only once, when I got pinned at an unfortunate moment. Between retch and solar burst/wave, taking crap out was only a matter of time, though it did take a lil'bit. Ghoulish leap let me kite around just enough to keep from getting completely downed in orcs, and my ridiculous amount of healing/shielding/etc. made the rest of it cake. Ukruk was actually unable to harm me while retch was up, when he was alone.
Latest chardump, taken right after clearing the ambush. You can see the offensive stuff slowly getting filled in, heh. I will say that solar burst is tremendously useful as a shield breaker -- serious boon in dreadfell, where skelies would pop bone armor day in and day out. Next class point goal is probably getting some points in that light of healing upgrade, for an instant debuff remover (confusion was a serious annoyance in DF).
E: Oh gods, fearscape. Phoenix heart completely trivializes fearscape. Fearscape in fact makes you close to functionally invincible. I'm getting a 118/round heal from this place! On top of all the other stuff! This is hilarious! Ahahaha!
E2: Healing. For. More. Than. The Grand Corruptor. His spell is helping me more than it's helping him!

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
I think last time I tried Melinda (previous version), I had Corona, a movement infusion, Charging Strike...and I think a pair of Rush boots as well. Still couldn't pull it off. I could reach them, but I'd take a swing and then they'd move. Maybe could have done it with better tactics though.
This is really helpful data. I wouldn't have even thought about turning Luminous Horrors into a heal battery (I just tend to find them annoying, since all of your offensive powers heal them). Now I just need to figure out how to use it to actually balance the class out.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Ah, not just the light horrors, really. I've used th'fire elementals (I can't wait for the boss one at the end of charred scar, huhuhu. That's going to be good for a laugh.) and fire imps, too, so far, the latter to help with a couple of rand elites. Summoners are actually a nice thing to see, really -- flamespitters and drakes are usually more helpful than harmful. Anything that deals more fire or light damage than something else is basically a net benefit, if you can stand losing autoexplore to keep 'em around
I've managed Melinda with, iirc, double rush and mindhook on a 'slayer, though they probably have a bit more kick to them... and the movespeed boost, which helps. A shalore with speed boots would have an easier time of things, I think -- use the rush boots, burn a turn to swap into speed (since you won't get it off twice before the timer kicks off, anyway). I'd probably wear one or two ice inflicting weapons if I were really gunning for it. And... not be a ghoul, of course.
One thing that'd help would be corona actually stunning them adjacent, instead of after they get another move in, I think. I've yet to see anything pulled in by corona actually freeze beside me... I guess it's intended, maybe?

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
One bug that I've noticed is that whenever I've tried to use Light of Healing, the Burnout condition is applied before the talent is actually used. So every time that I've used it I've spent extra stamina and extended the Burnout condition, just by using the talent once.
Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Huh...must have something to do with being instant use at level 3. I'll check it out.
EDIT: Huh, actually, nope. I just had burnout code in there twice.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
New update posted, did a lot of numerical tweaking which should hopefully have some degree of positive effect on balance.
Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Experiment successful! Heat beam runes don't do enough damage with phoenix heart penetration to offset the healing from them. A 149 damage one is healing me for about ((38-6)*5 = 160) hp over 5 turns. It's no regen infusion (yet! This is a weak one.), but it does almost double my base hp regen for a lil'bit. Throw in a psychoportation totem to offset the loss of the teleport rune, and I've now got a shield/shield/regen ghoul. This is nice.
Will have to see how well it does if I get wildfire maxed out, though. Does burning wake and cleansing flame interact any with the phoenix fire tree? Just blastwave is a little anemic, sorta', but having what amounts to another, slightly lower duration, retch that strips timed effects as well is still a nice prospect.
Haven't checked the new update yet... gonna' wait until this guy keels over or wins. Incidentally, there definitely seems to be issues with Phoenix wing/empathic hex interaction. Or... something, and empathic hex. PK doesn't like to play with corruptors, heh.
E: Woah. Just lost a life to a spinning arcane trap that wrecked me for 1.8k damage. Yikes.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Unless it's been changed for some reason in the latest version, yes, the Phoenix Fire tree does work with with Burning Wake. I'm pretty sure that it works with Cleansing Flames as well, but right now my percentage chance to get it to work is a little low for me to be able to verify.
Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Hasn't been changed, and Cleansing Flames should work (if my memory serves, that's built into the Inferno damage type that Burning Wake uses).
Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Ah, here's an updated chardump, made just after returning to the west. Other than that death due to crazy arcane trap, things are going pretty smoothly.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Here's something that I've experienced when facing enemy Phoenix Knights. This is happening in the most recent version of the Phoenix Knight, but I have experienced something similar (or perhaps the same, I wasn't paying close attention) in earlier versions.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Okay, so, uh... okay. Has... has anyone managed to kill their dark crypt clone with a phoenix knight? Because... this isn't pretty. Near as I can tell I just don't have enough damage to kill the bugger... even silenced, pulled out of 'is own retch, and being wailed on by a focus and glory boosted Blighted Maul (96-144 damage, yeesh) doing a good 600 damage per swing I... I just can't kill myself fast enough.
Silence wears out, and once that's gone there's just nothing I can really do -- 1.5k shields, another 1.2k or so in heals, then phoenix regen, solar blast recovery... s'crazy. Any suggestions?
E:Bleh, nevermind. Enough wailing and an eventual lucky silence managed it. Took... took probably five, six hundred turns >_<
E2: Probably the next to last chardump. Might be one more in between, if I actually go through with farming farportals 'till I hit 50 (Kinda' want to give amat a shot before high peak). Anyway, just cleared charred scar... sorta' intending to farm portals until I get another 4k -- the one I'm in is the first, so I'm starting about halfway there -- for another merchant art. Half-way want to see if I can top spellblade, heh.
As before, it's been going pretty smoothly. Biggest change is I've been using the AoE spells a bit more, especially in the pride I hit. So many necromancers, so many summoned undead, etc. Continuing to be a hilariously unkillable doomtank, especially now that I've swapped out th'blood mail for a crystalline voratun one (Merch cloak let's me shift the 30% healmod elsewhere <3) and am regularly hitting for 5-600. Lowish side, honestly, for a character this late in the game, but it's enough to 2-3 shot most everything. We'll see where things go from here, heh.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Uploaded a patch to fix that error with enemy mage knights (I think). Also fixes a bug in the new version where the casting speed reduction for Burnout applies multiple times and potentially only resets once.

Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
I'm about to test version 17, and I noticed that version 18 is just a package of the 'data' directory. I'm not sure what changed between version 17 and version 18, but I'm pretty sure that with the way things are set up that version 18 won't run.
Re: [b41] Metaclass - Mage Knight (Version 5)
Paying attention is good. Fixed.
