im playing a lot of characters from embers in aoa thanks to this add on but it has a big issue for me
the starting zone is always forced to trollmire no matter what (if you are demonologist or doodbringer, or archmage etc you don't get the usual starting zone)
i opened this thread because his author doesnt play the game for something like 43 weeks 5 days, so i want to know if i someone can fix it or give me an help so i can fix it (even if im a monkey with this stuff).

Ok, I contacted the original author. They are not able to work on this at the moment, but gave me the okay to take a look at it and see if I can work anything out.
So... looking at the birth code, it seems that the class starts are actually locked to specific races based on lore. Celestials, for instance, only start in the east if they are human or elven. Chronos only start in Point Zero if they are not Yeeks, Dwarfs or Undead. Similar restricons on AM start. I didn't actually look at the Ashes classes yet.
Now, I could fork the add on in question and alter the class definitions to include the three races from Embers... but maybe a whole new addon which removes the race check from the class-based starts (except standard undead, as they need the Cloak) would be better?
I think there may actually be an add on which does that already. I'll look around when I have time and post a link here if I spot one. Otherwise, I'm up for doing a little coding, just let me know if you want something Embers-races specific or if you'd prefer an add on that gives class starts priority over all racial starts (except undead).

It likely would not be compatible with other addons that alter starting zones, but it would depend partly on how the other addons functioned. It would be up to the user to decide which they prefer, at that point.

I hate saying I will do something and then not follow through. So, a little update on this. I started working on it and then my life was kind of turned on its head, so I haven't had time to finish. I will, when I get a chance, but I don't know when that will be. If anyone else wants to tackle this in the meantime, just let me know and I will pass on my notes and what I have done so far.

It's actually pretty simple, code-wise. I finally had a couple of free hours to finish it up. There wasn't much to it, i just really hadn't had the time. The addon is finished, and essentially makes it so class starts ignore race checks (excluding Undead and any other race that may be tagged with 'no_start_override').
