Download here: REVISED SHORT STAVES
Based on another thread, and a lot of conversation in ToME chat, I bring you: Revised Short Staves.
Goals:
1) Make 1-handed staves less rare
2) Scale down the power of 1-handed staves to balance against allowing an item in the offhand, and classes than can use two (Reaver)
Changes:
* Short staves are now their own type (weapon / short staff)
* Short staves are 1-handed (duh)
* Short staves have base stats of 2 tiers lower than 2-handed staves (eg tier-5 short staff has tier-3 base stats). Tier 1 and Tier 2 short staves have slightly reduced stats.
* Short staves are likely to spawn at the staff shops in Evala and Anglowen.
* Two fixedarts are now short staves: The Sceptre of the Archlich and the Crystal Shard
* The Last Hope Item Merchant has an option to let you buy a randart short staff
Feedback and bug reports appreciated!
Thank you! to:
* Zizzo for answering my lua/t-engine questions
* grayswandir, from whom I "borrowed" a bunch of code
* HousePet for his updated way to handle new items for the Item Merchant

Re: Revised Short Staves v1.0.0
Kinda intriguing, though I don't know if the difference between Sword and dagger is quite that pronounced?
Isn't most of the benefit from stacking +damage percent and procs for staves, even so?
*hasn't tried yet, but finds the idea interesting*

Re: Revised Short Staves v1.0.0
Should try to run a reaver using this addon...
I suggest one important nerf to be added
Reduce one handed staff +% proc damage to +1.5% from +2.5%
Because proc damage is one of reasons why short staffs are so great
Another option is changing accuracy bonus to something else, after all swords and daggers have different accuracy bonuses.

Re: Revised Short Staves v1.0.0
Hm, I was mainly concerned about the flat +% elemental bonuses; a Reaver with two tier-5 short staves ended up with like a +60% damage bonus!Strongpoint wrote:Should try to run a reaver using this addon...

How often do the proc damage effects come into play?

Re: Revised Short Staves v1.0.0
reaver's t2 talent in scourge tree adds proc damage, just like rogues shadow combat and sunpal's weapon of light.
then... there is plenty of items that add damage on hit.
this +60 can turn notable, when you dual wield, and if we assume they are all the same type, with 20 acc/deff difference, it goes... +50%? 90 damage.
and then you have arcane blade with its auto spellcasts, which i hear also count.
proca damage comes into play ANY time you hit something, which considering that you are a reaver, all the time.
aaand then there are certain artefacts, that trigger a spell, off of another spell.
