Turtles

#1 Post by StarKeep »

http://te4.org/games/addons/tome/turtles

This addon adds four races.
The Turtle, The MegaTurtle, the EarthTurtle, and the IceTurtle.
They lack speed, but are extremely tanky.
They also have their very own racial trees.

It also adds in Turtlemire, a randomly spawning dungeon. It's level is 18-30.
It's filled to the brim with Turtles.

It also changes the vanilla Dragon turtles into Turtlemire variety turtles.

At the end of Turtlemire, lays the Ancient Turtle Cave. It's level is 45+.
This map is filled with treasures, and many powerful boss-class turtles.
They say that Rex owns a powerful staff, that Earth Mages could only dream of.

It also adds in a few Artifacts.

So the question on everyone's mind is who would win in a race. Mega turtle or bunnymorph?

Indeed. These turtles don't mess around.
When they move slow, they move slooow.

With Harmony unlocked, they're just begging to be played as Wildfire pyromaniacs, stacking global speed bonuses all the way up to 0% global speed penalty.

Well, the regular ones anyway. I have no idea how to compensate for the 80% Mega penalty.

While slow, I should point out that outside of spellcasters, they're nigh invulnerable. With spellcasters, they're easily in the 40% resist all range from there racial (25) and thick skin (15), plus whatever they can get from other talents/equipment. (Thought form defender, comes to mind...) And with the INSANE regen they can get at high con (even the starting 12...) you could stack healmod all day and just become crazy-tanky.

There big undoing at the moment, appears to be enemies with regen infusions. The one's I've played have ended in suicidal stalemates where I can't die, but can't outdamage my enemies regen infusions. Different classes would likely help more with that. I see interesting possibilities for them as mages, or other high-burst classes. Or those who do DoT damage for everything. (Poisons and wildfire would both work well here, as would nightmare/restless sleep.)

Overall, a very VERY fun race to play. I'm not sure of it's longterm feasibility, but it's quite entertaining to play. Still teetering a very fine line between difficult challenge race and crazy overpowered. I honestly don't know which side to put it on. Kudos to the designer for a interesting build.
Currently playing under the name Aura of the Dawn 4 down, 227 to go!

I just cleared Lake of Nur 1 and 2 with a level 12 Archmage Turtle. :)

Phantasmal Shield really shines on these fellows.

Aaack, didn't realize somebody had already grabbed the new version.
Had uploaded a new version (md5 and all) severely nerfing Spiked Shield (It was just doing too much when building pure health) so your game may invalidate...

As in, I overwrote the old release.

I'll re-unoverwrite it, and add in the next version on a different version.

Wow, you've updated this addon 9 times in 4 days. Most developers do that much over the course of months. You should consider releasing these revisions in batches.

Otherwise, this looks like a very interesting concept. Keep up the good work!

Well, see.
Somebody told me, that smaller updates are simpler to find problems with, so I've stuck with that.
If it really is that big of a deal, I could slow it down a-lot.

I approve of fast updates even when you invalidate my character, ruining hours of play.

Also I approve of the Turtle addon having the fastest pace of releases ever.

so turtle wyrmics are pretty ridonculous. 10 health regen just for 1 generic point at level 1? really???

Also the first 3 racials have no pre-reqs. Intended?

Health regen really needs to be scaled back, like, massively. 1 MAYBE 2 per talent level

Good luck getting 400% global speed.
