Hello, I'm pretty new to ToME, have been playing for a bit more than a week, and my latest character, a Cornac Arcane Blade just died.
I was pretty much strolling trough the maps, died to ambushes sometimes, but I think it might've been the lack of concentration too. So, i created this topic to ask experienced players for advices :
Did i lack escapes?
Was there something i did wrong?
I learned one thing at least from my death : I didn't have any mean of removing Stuns, nor had I immunities to it.
Here is the character : http://te4.org/characters/197415/tome/e ... b126b7e25f
Thanks for reading.

You've got Arcane Combat set to Lightning right? You should max that pretty early. Also you should probably go 1/1/1/1 in Dirty Fighting and get at least 1/1/0/0 in Conveyance, since Teleport can save you often. Level 30 is pretty good for a newer player, keep it up and you should be able to win in the near future.
My wiki page, which contains a guide and resource compilation and class tier list.

The problem is partly the class. ABs have no sustained or passive general defenses to speak of and their active defenses are very short duration. Shielding only lasts 4 turns. Stone Skin is just armor and not very much of it for an awful lot of mana relative to their pool. Earthen Barrier only helps against physical damage. If you shield early the duration will run out on you and if you shield late you're shielding on the eidolon plane.
I'd suggest trying an easier class. There are lots of more forgiving classes. Probably most of them. Even Archmage can dump their mana and then explore with disruption shield up.
But part of the problem is that you have no escapes and no wilds. You should have a mental wild and a physical wild. Silence, confusion, stun, freeze, and disarm will kill you, as stun apparently did. If you're not 100% immune or unconcerned (as non-casters who don't use runes can ignore silence and non-weapon classes can ignore disarm) you get the shortest cooldown wilds you can as your highest inscription slot priority. You should 5/1/0/0 Conveyance ASAP for directed phase door as a safe semi-escape and teleport as a less safe full escape. You should probably have a movement infusion around level 30 as well because teleports don't work on spoiler, though keeping it long term isn't mandatory. You should never drop category points boosting multipliers until you have five inscription slots (six on an ogre). You should almost never do it at all, but certainly not over all your inscription slots. You should also not be using regeneration infusions with the Aegis tree.
But, really, my best suggestion is to try another class. If you've hit level 30 you've probably unlocked a lot of them. Sun Paladins, wyrmics, and reavers are all kind of similar and a lot more forgiving. (Reavers have a bad reputation, but the Rot tree is a huge boost to their survivability if you have a decent negative health threshold and all the guides seem to predate its introduction.) If you think you like ABs you probably really want to be playing a reaver. Their melee casting mechanic works so much more smoothly.

Re: New to ToME, first character 30+, need some advice
Thanks for the reply, and all the advices.
This character had lots of flaw, and I was without doubt overlooking a lot of stats/status effect, usually I'm not even looking to get more inscription slots, and he might have survived if i asked for advice earlier.
But that's how we learn.
Now i know some more about survival; I had The Untouchable as armor though, so i was getting overconfident.
Elemental Fury too, and i'm curious whether it's a good or bad item, as i was doing more or less 600 damage per hit, i don't know whether 600 is good or bad though at level 30.
Currently i'm trying an anti-magic wyrmic dwarf, going for mindstar as main weapon.

Elemental Fury is a fine item in the right situations. It should work ok on your AB, although it may make your choice of damage-boosting gear problematic. It's also commonly used by a sun paladin as an emergency fallback if he's suddenly facing a light-resistant enemy.
