Afflicted winners: Doomed and Cursed

#1 Post by Delmuir »

I'd never had a winner with either of these classes until recently and had almost never even tried the Doomed until this week. They both had a very similar feel in that they have tough beginnings and middle-games but by the time they hit the end of Dreadfell, they're just death-blizzards with an easy end-game.

The first was a Ghoul Cursed with Cursed aura and the second was an anti-magic Thalore Doomed.

The key skills were these:

Cursed: Frenzy and Harass Prey coupled with the Rampage category. It's pretty simple… Harass Prey is, in my estimation, very underrated. Frenzy got to the point where I was utterly decimating even high-level bosses brutally and quickly. This character used Surge for speed and +mobility whenever possible. I used Superpowered and I Can Carry the World as prodigies… seriously, once this thing got up and running, it never had a problem.

Doomed: I used Shadows early on and then transitioned to the Punishments category in mid-game. I didn't use reproach, preferring 3 points in Hateful Whispers and maxing the last two skills. Mental Tyranny was all it was promised in combination… Unseen Force was preferred over Blast, which I didn't even max until the middle of the final fight.

In late game, I focused on Fears which is amazing. Holy crap, it's a boss-destroyer. Not great with crowd control but Unseen Force and Shadows did fine with that.

I didn't spend anything in Darkness category and honestly, I don't really see the Benefit.

I also used Spell Feedback as a prodigy and it worked very nicely. Ultimately, both classes were interesting… very hard to get off the ground although the Cursed was definitely the harder of the two to start. However, both of them just cruised at game's end.

I found that interesting because the Mage classes tend to start fairly easy and never feel over-powered and occasionally run into obstacles that they can't comfortably overcome. These two had no such problem.

For Doomed in particular, getting your crit-rate up is very important. I only had it around 40% but that was enough… you can do SO MUCH DAMAGE in combination with your de-buffs… very interesting. Both are, in my estimation, superior classes to all of the mage classes if you can get them past lvl 18 or so.

Cursed is B rank and Doomed is C rank, according to the unofficial [urlhttp://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=42608]tiering[/url]. That being said, there's no bad class. Just some that don't have any truly broken combinations.

Also, Delmuir, you say you were utterly decimating bosses as a Cursed? I tend to have better luck with classes that actually kill bosses instead of doing ten percent of their health in damage and no more. (Sorry, decimating used incorrectly is a major peeve of mine.) Jokes aside, though, I've never really managed to get a Cursed or Doomed off their feet. Shame, especially because I really want to try out the class that is "Akira if he was Jackie Estacado".
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.

It hasn't worked yet.

You're exactly right about "decimating." I actually meant "devastating" but clearly, I used the wrong word. I take no offense because I hate being wrong and the only way to be wrong less is by being corrected when one is wrong.

I've always had a hard time with Cursed in particular but the Ghoul combination worked nicely. Getting out of the starter dungeon was tough and it wasn't an optimal build I suspect but once it got rolling, it was unstoppable.

The Doomed though was much, much easier to start than a Cursed and it got rolling sooner. I'm not terribly experienced with either class so I can't rank them but I was a bit shocked how strong they were at the end compared to the Mage classes with whom I have a lot of experience.

Time to roll up another Dark Fairy Brawler so I can kill the master and get Ghouls. (Seriously, the cloning ability is flat out broken. Makes me feel bad about doing super well with it.)

And that should help my main issue. I got a thing for playing Yeeks, so I've tried doing a Cursed Yeek and a Doomed Yeek. Combine slow starts with Yeek starting dungeons...

My all-time favorite character was a Doomed/Cursed adventurer, if you liked both classes you really should try that combo once. Stacking the debuffs you get from Gloom, Reproach, Fears,... with Cursed Aura on top - that's just flat-out hilarious.
