I gave skeleton a shot.
And I'm really happy with the results. I've never returned back from the East before, let alone tackle High Peak!

High peak didn't give me much trouble. Though there were a few hairy moments against the stair bosses. I even had to teleport away from one at one point.

Dreadfell, including the vaults, gave me no trouble - until the Master, that is.

Stun and disarm were a problem until I got to the east.

Deaths

The Master was the hardest part of the game. Killing me twice.
I put a certain gem into the eye of a certain golem as soon as I returned from the east - it took me three lives before I finally managed to get to the exit. Lesson learnt. And learnt hard!
I had 2 deaths from ambushes. A corruptor/necro ambush, with a lot of skeleton mages.
The backup guardian in Daikara also got me.
Finally, the previously mentioned golem finished me off.

Build Overview

Concentrated on the fire tree, points in Flame Shock before level 10, maxed mid 20s.
Maxed out Inferno late game.

Went for Battle Tactics at 10, for max Step Up by 18, maxed bleeding edge end-game.
Shields at 20, one point in each talent.

A point in rush before level 12. Spare points went here.

Magical combat was probably pretty standard. 1 point in destruciton at 12.
MAxed feed as soon as possible. Combat maxed quite early, and points in cunning when available.

Maxed the enhancement quite late, focusing on inner power first.

Invested more into Aegis than last time. Paired with 2 shield runes, and my racials, this was awesome. So much tanking.

Wasted a category on a heat rune. Never found myself in need of more than 2 teleports -Didn't find myself in need of more than for most of the game.

Wasted a prodigy on Worldly Knowledge. Got the light tree, and didn't put a single point in it.
Second prodigy was cauterize.

It took me a while to develop a winning character without just taking a class' popular optimal build.

My early attempts consisted on rampage-free cursed builds ...They didn't go very well.

I hoped that going fire and playing a melee/caster build from L4-14/18, rather than pure caster until L20 r so, and relying on early as possible Step-Up gave this character a touch of uniqueness. At least until late game, when many classes seem to converge, anyway. But, I don't really check the vaults, so I'm not certain.
