I read on the forum that Shalore Alchemist is supposedly a terrible combination. Ok, I can't compare since this is the only character I've ever created, but I found all the race skills pretty useful. More speed and more critical attack and crit. mutilation is always good. Secrets of the Eternals saved my life more than once. I would, for example, have died against Urkis without it. I was frozen, had only few lifepoints left and couldn't do anything, but I became invisible and Urkis didn't attack, which gave me a chance to recover. As far as I remember I had no spare lives at that point, so without that skill it would have been game over. And finally Timeless, which I used all the time to remove effects. At the end I also used it to do two bomb attacks in a row.
Maybe Alchemist is even stronger with other races, but I definitely found that skilltree very useful. Ended up with 1/5/1/5.
At one point (while still in the west) the game was becoming more and more difficult, but then I got the Spell / Divination tree from an escort. The skill Vision combined with Sensing Enemies allowed me to map out dungeons and tell where the enemies are. Then I used digging to get myself in the best position for surprise ambushes on strong enemy groups. Did that against The Master for example and killed him without any real difficulty.
My endgame was relatively easy with my high speed and high critical chance. I died once against The Crusher and the final battle though because I made the mistake of being too close to the enemy.
I can only guess, but I think Alchemist is probably one of the easier classes. That bomb skill is very strong. Next I'm gonna try a melee class. Must be pretty challenging to fight all those groups of enemies in close combat.
