[b28] Dwarf Fighter Sandworm Lair advice
Hi, this is my best character so far - Wark the Dwarf Fighter
He's got a fortress, completed Halfling ruins, Daikara, Old Forest, Trollmire, all the starting dungeons. He's been to Tempest Peak and a Farportal.
He's not done the bottom of Trollmire (where I assume Bill is), or the Temporal Rift in Daikara (looked like it might be a scary place to go). And the Sandworm Lair has caused him no end of problems.
I've been in there 2-3 times, gone down to level2 at one point. But despite following the sandworms, and having a Digger, he still gets stuck in collapsing tunnels and so on. Any advice?
Actually it occurs to me that I now have the Burning Star which should make life easier for findign my way around. but still, any other tips on surviving the Lair?
Any equipment advice welcome, I'm paticularly unsure what the best armour or boots to be wearing is (anything in my inventory is fair game!)
Thanks!

Unless you're wearing things that improve your speed, always follow the burrowers right behind them. Don't get more than two spaces behind them. Once they get into an open area, do your best to get into that open area even if there's jellies and worms trying to kill you. NEVER fight in the tunnels the burrowers create unless there's one (and only one) thing between you and the burrower, and you can kill the thing in 1-2 turns. If you see the tunnel starting to collapse in on you (and you prolly should have a range 3-4 light for this place as a fiter) and you can't catch up to the burrower, use your teleportation rune: 9 times out of 10 you'll end up in an open area, and frankly any place is better than being crushed to death by sand that you can't escape.
Oh. and NEVER use diggers here, takes too long and the burrowers will always lead you to an open space.

And always have a teleport option ready.

Yes, do not bother exploring...
Get to the down stairs ASAP and do it as quickly as possible. There are too many nasty ways to die here.

Thanks for all your help, definitely easier this time, waiting for the burrowers and then following close behind. Was a bit worried when the Queen blinded me as soon as I got found her, but was OK in the end.
I've since done the bottom of Trollmire, and Temporal Rift. It's either Dreadfell or another Farportal next, any advice on which to tackle?

What level are you?
If above Clevel 20 you should be able to do Dreadfell....

I notice, looking at your character dump, that you have the Blood of Life. Chug that thing; it's not doing any good in your backpack!

Was hoping for bragging rights "Look, I got all the way to x, still carrying the Blood of Life"Burb Lulls wrote:I notice, looking at your character dump, that you have the Blood of Life. Chug that thing; it's not doing any good in your backpack!
Though really, that only applies for roguelike mode I guess. Thanks for the advice, Dreadfell it is.

Or hit the other dungeons, ruined, halfling, elven.... even the cult. Dreadfully can get... nasty. The vaults there can be especially roughgoing. You get good stuff from ruined usually, and figuring out the puzzle is fun.

Explore the world map... both occur in random locations

OK, thought I'd checked as much of the world out as I could, thanks.

The task where you hear the female crying for help is VERY dangerous.fearoffours wrote:OK, thought I'd checked as much of the world out as I could, thanks.
The worst place in the west and a LOT harder than Dreadfell.
I assume others feel different, but that is my experience after three deaths and no victory so far.
