b26 Stealth Rogue Survies the Dark Crypt!!

#1 Post by edge2054 »

Here's my cornac Rogue...

http://te4.org/characters/81/tome/41397 ... 1cc000edf0

As you can see I'm not super invested in the Stealth tree but with my high cunning I do have 54 stealth power when I'm stealthed. Creatures still notice me but they have a hard time targeting me.

Upon entering the Dark Crypt I was in a room with five Wretchlings, an elven caster, with another elven caster and elven guard in line of sight. I was stealthed upon entering and I debated what to do (the five Wretchlings where right next to me so I could have whirlwinded three of them but somehow giving up my stealth seemed like a bad idea).

So... I did what any good rogue would do. I snuck off. Everything the room noticed me but not being able to target me the room was soon full of randomly thrown corrossive vapours and bolts. I was taking damage and got a little worried I wouldn't make it out but I choose not to panic. By the time I got out of line of sight of the spell battle I was at half life and face to face with another elven guard/caster combo. I snuck up on the caster, flurried him, popped shield and regen, and killed the guard. I popped hide in plain sight to restealth and went back to the room I spawned in to find everything dead. The elves must have killed the wretchlings and then been killed by the acid.

A few levels deeper I got in a heated battle with a large group of elves and had to hide several times while my infusions cooled down. By hiding I don't mean, no monsters in line of sight. I mean tucked away in a corner so only one elf could attack me, stealthed, with several elves aggrod trying to throw spells at me (but without knowing my exact location, they mostly just hit other elves). This fight took a lot of hit and run tactics. Coming out of stealth with flurry, popping shield and regen, killing maybe one more elf, then running with movement infusion and hiding again.

I didn't save Malinda. Played to cautious when I got to the bottom (was trying to stealth up on one of the casters but since it had some idea I was there I didn't manage to close in time). Another heated battle ensued with me running while stealthed, healing up, killing the summoned demon, popping hide in plain sight, and finishing off the other casters one by one.

Moral of the story, I have a new found respect for stealth. Even without Unseen Actions I was able to use Hide in Plain Sight and movement infusions coupled with stealth to save my character multiple times. It was very intense and required a lot of courage. I wanted to panic everytime I got hit while stealthed but I kept convincing myself it was just a lucky shot (because really it was). In large fights the elves did more damage to each other then they did to me while I was in hiding.

I think I will be investing in nimble armor and boots of speed as soon as possible though ;) Would have helped against the fleeing AI in the battle to save Malinda and strengthens the hit and run tactics that where so valuable in getting through the zone.

The short version; stealth is awesome.

Sounds fun! I've had a similar eye-opener concerning the Illuminate spell with an archmage - a roomful of blinded bloodmages casting their stuff every which way for a measly 5 mana is cheap at the price. A well-lighted room is just the cherry on top :D

Looking at your build, would a halfling work even better? Luck of the Little Folk scales of cunning - at your level, that'd be guaranteed crits for five turns...
Ghoul never existed, this never happened!

Yeah, a halfling would be nice but when I started the character I thought I had to unlock the poison tree first and then reroll (like with the archmage trees). So I picked the race I thought would give me the biggest bonus upfront. Plus I've spent a cat point on the poison tree, the field control tree, and an inscription slot. At level 30 I'll take the tree with stamina regen in it and then a fifth inscription slot once I get the potion from the west 2.0. So my category points are all going to good use.
