Congratulations on another win.

Ghouls also make good reavers/corruptors, since gnaw induces ghoul rot, a disease, allowing thme to stack an extra disease for catalepsy to proc off of. If you can manage the speed penalty, that can stack a LOT of damage. (Virulent, gnaw, Epidemic, Activation off life drinker, virulent again (if I counted turns right), blood spray (if corruptor) followed by catalepsy. That's 6 diseases there, followed by a catalepsy proc. Damage off that can exceed 10k, easily. Very easily. One of the more promising ghoul races, even if I have issues with trying to handle the speed penalty.

A class I find fun and rather survivable (probably attributed to my first win) is Anorithil. If you wanted one that started in the east, Cornac is viable, though other races offer the class more. Higher would help with it's elemental boost talent, though they do tend to use 2 elements, there's enough talents of one, that whatever you cast can buff the rest.

Why all the Shaloren though?

Erm, first win. Not that there was any doubt I could get a win on Adventure difficulty - though I honestly didn't expect to get the win on the very first attempt while recording it.

I'm looking to stay away from Corrupter and Reaver. I did a Higher Reaver and really didn't think much of the playstyle. I also noted that Necromancer Minions apparently get healed up by Retch, plus I don't have a really long played out 'Pet Styled' run yet so I figured try and kill two birds in one stone.

Before making the Shaloran Berserker I had pretty well played every non-undead class beforehand and came out really liking the Race for the racial talents it gives. After winning the Berserker though I am not so much against playing other races though - I was stuck on the Shaloran Race for a long time now.

I may give the Cornac/Higher Anorithil a try. It might be a better idea too since I have a lack of general spellcasters to melee focused characters on my channel.

Oops. I would've sworn I'd seen a winning post by you before... but looking at character sheet, I guess not. All the more congratulations then, for a first win. Even on adventure, that's a bit of a challenge.

That's definitely true for retch and the minions, though I'm not sure what you didn't like about the reaver or corruptor gameplay. (They seem some of the simplest to learn and play, if not quite so easy to win with) Might also keep your eye out for the armor set that offers retch if you wear both pieces. (Stack retch, or retch after your first runs out, you can practically make your minions immortal, to say nothing of you)

Anorithil is definitely one of the easier mages to run, given it being born with the celestial light tree. Though learning to balance light and dark is a bit trickier (but part of what makes the class fun.) The eastern start is something of a challenge however. I wish you the best with it.

Kind of late to be replying here but figured I'd note I'm back since Steam now features Tales of Maj'Eyal.

So I'll note I played a Shaloran Wyrmic - but that was a while back, last run I played after winning with the Shaloran Berserker. That didn't run didn't get to far. After the wait though and now that Steam has ToME I started up again - with a Higher Anorithil. It's still going, it's died 4 times already quite horribly but I'm confident I at least have a chance of geting out of Dreadfall and perhaps getting to the other continent.

Oh, these are always fun. Watched to episode 3 at the moment - with the slaughter in the assassin's tunnels being he most memorable part. Rogue-type NPCs got a boost when something that should have been working for them all the time but didn't before got fixed - can't recall what exactly. That first surround was a summoning trap, these used to be plentiful late game, and killed many of my magey characters. For the chest a Jumpgate would have saved you a lot of trouble...
Ghoul never existed, this never happened!

I can say I have a new respect for Bandit Lords.

Anyhow, I'll note I've just finished a bunch more recordings which I'll have to compress - that take me all the way up to killing the Master, dying in the Orc Ambush, and waiting to enter Reknor.

I'm half way through and still with only 4 deaths.

Nother batch of recording done, no deaths.

I've managed to do from the start of Reknor to creating the portal back to Maj'Eyal - as well as Orc Breeding Pits and The Dark Crypt. Of Special Note - I have unlocked the Doomed Class this time around.

Hopefully I can keep up the pace, manage to show off Agrimleys special reward (if I ever manage to get a stupid ritch stinger), and who knows - win the game x2?

Sadly, potentially the last batch of videos for my current run - the Higher Anorithil - may have just gone up. The run has not ended due to running out of lives or winning the game, but simply due to LUA Errors. I might do a following video or two about some of the more important points that would follow (Agrimley's third potion completion reward) but I think for the most part the run will likely have concluded for the most part where it is.

I'll likely we looking into starting some new runs after completing the Endless Space: Disharmony run I'm in the process of doing.

Sweet mother! Reading this thread I thought it was some recorded speed run with horrible music playing in the background, but it was actually a pace I could follow and with a commentary.

If only my phone battery would last longer with YouTube videos (can't turn off the screen for audio only cause closing the screen will end it) I could listen to it at work.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

Good News then. I have managed to continue my run - albeit no longer using Steam. Taking a up a suggestion from Darkgod I backtracked to an older version of the ToME client and loaded up my save to keep going.

At this juncture I've made it up to and completed the Charred Scar while also picking up and using Agrimley's lovely Wild Growth Infusion. The Run Continues and I'm nearing its end too which is nice - too bad I won't get the Steam Achievements.

Just did another batch of runs that I'll have to compress and.... I died twice but managed to clear all the Orc Pride Leaders and sneak past the stuff in the Slime Tunnels to get to the start of the High Peak run.

Not sure how much longer this run will be lasting, but I'm nearing the end of it one way or the other.

Thank you very much for doing these videos, subscribed and watching as new batches are coming out.
Are you going to try some Nightmare difficulty walkthrough?

Probably note going to do a Nightmare Run. Normal is hard enough for me.

Most likely what I'll be aiming to do as well after the Anorithil is to jump back on Roguelike Difficulty and do a lot of quick one-off runs again with different classes.

Finished uploading all the videos up to the start of High Peak. Only a little bit more of the run is left - I think about 1 level of High Peak and the boss fight. Will be interesting if I can pull off another win for sure.

So, I figured I'd drop a final post regarding the Higher Anorithil Run. First, good news:

The run has been completed and I have achieved my second win (Que Crim's Congratulations either after this post or the post I'll make when I have all my videos uploaded).

However, the bad news is that since I was using older versions and saves and what not that it doesn't appear like the win is registering in the character vault. Not that I really care though, I have the gameplay footage and after I have the videos ready I'll upload them to YouTube - including the very long and drawn out Final Battle people will eventually see, but there will be no dump really to view

As for what's left to do: there is about 5 episodes left for my Higher Anorithil that have yet to be loaded. I am slowly compressing said footage of my concluding run into episodes for viewing, in total though there is like 4 hours of footage still to compress (perhaps shortened down a bit as I'm nicking off some of the useless footage from after I win the game).

Have to say I'm happy the run is done however - already exceeding the amount of time played for my Shaloran Berserker, the Higher Anorithil had gone on long enough and I'm glad to have brought it finally to an end; additionally so since I won again and now have a Spellcaster win and non-Spellcaster win shown on video to boast for on my YouTube channel.
