Re: Linaniil, the Halfling Archmage bit the dust!
Looking back at your character I'm surprised you left your constitution score so low. One of the early lessons I learned in TOME4 was that you can't just focus on magic with a wizard and dex with a rogue - *every* character needs a high con stat. Preferably up to 32 reasonably early on for the first couple of Health talents.

And yet I survived 29 levels
But yeah my new chars are investing more in it

The importance of Constitution is one of the things I quite like about ToME 4 in comparison with other roguelikes, actually. In other games normal monsters become almost irrelevant, threatless, and after buffing your character up there is little threat other than from bosses or ertain powerful monsters with special attacks. HP deaths are rare. In ToME 4 HP death still seems to be a big threat into later parts of the game, and not paying attention to your HP will quickly get you killed. Regular monsters still do significant damage, and in open spaces are much harder to avoid. Makes the game much more fun :)

Seconded. In the Palace of the Purple Emperor of Zany Fungi they rush at you from behind a toadstool and 800 becomes 200 or suchlike - it's not hard to figure out what 599 would become

With my mages I push willpower first, but as soon as it reaches 25, all spare points go to constitution. And 5 in Health doesn't harm either...

Why stop willpower at 25 before moving to constitution?PowerWyrm wrote:With my mages I push willpower first, but as soon as it reaches 25, all spare points go to constitution. And 5 in Health doesn't harm either...

Willpower 25 is where I take a break too. It's the place where I can know I don't need to worry much about running out of mana and can move on to running out of life. More successful characters get more willpower again when I think about running invis or essence, etc.
Re: Linaniil, the Halfling Archmage bit the dust!
Willpower 25 means I can activate Arcane Power, Feather Wind, Blur Sight and Stone Skin and still have enough mana to cast spells. Once CON is at 59, I put more WIL to be able to activate PT or Essence of Speed or other sustains that cost a lot of mana.
