Made it to the Far East! (First time post-beta-13.)

Beat up Krogar, no sweat. Made it out of the cave. Took a few steps on the map, and here comes an Orc Patrol.

Died. Died again. Holy mother of... what are they FEEDING these orcs over here?! These patrols were never this bad before....

So anyway, after the first death, my hymn & chant were gone, of course, and I had to replace them with inferior ones. I didn't have that fourth hymn learned (the one that shoots dark rays everywhere). Maybe I should do that before heading East next time. Hard to say. It's not like I was even CLOSE to winning the fight. Outnumbered 8 or 10 to 1, in the open, with no chance to set up a Jumpgate in advance... not an Anorithil's best scenario, that.

Maybe I need to stockpile an invisibility rune before activating the portal...? I've never used invisibility before, so I wouldn't even know how to take advantage of it.

I had the girdle of hauling crap on instead of Calm Waters because I was laden with stuff... I doubt it would've made much difference here, though.

Should've scummed Bree^H^H^H^HDerth for more onyxes, too.

My rampaging berserker has been reduced to creeping fearfully around the Far East worldmap. When I see an orc patrol, I run screaming to the nearest paladin patrol. Unfortunately, quite often the orcs simply trample the paladins and keep coming. They also camp outside of town, waiting for you to emerge. The Far East is not for the faint of heart in beta 15!


I'd recommend generating a larger ambush zone with more cover. Dumping the player in the middle of a small, sparse forest surrounded by orcs is probably a death sentence for most classes. If I didn't have Unstoppable, I wouldn't have survived a single one.

I've just met my first orc patrol in beta 15 and its way too hard.

I've done first pride without problem and having thrown in the middle of 5-6 mages having different specialization and 4-5 melee fighters is just too harsh. The most fearfull are blood mages and their curse of vulnerability which strips most of your resistance and rest just finish you off (they usually come in 2 packs so using Infusion: wild doesnt help much). The field is too small to hide and too large to use Antimagic (1 or 2 of mages will be outside of range and having that they can do something like 100-200 normal dmg/turn hurts)

So in the end i think its not the level or quantity of enemies makes it difficult but their combination. I play as berserker and if one of orcs disarms me successfully its the end.(i've lost my RoD that way)

I'm there with all of the above posters. My lvl 50 berserker can probably take down half of the patrols without godmode (i.e. Unstoppable), but that means the other half REQUIRE godmode to survive. Even those that I don't pop godmode, I'm pretty darn nervous. And this is a pretty darn decked-out zerker.
