Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! Ogre Doombringer makes it!

I pulled off an extremely satisfying win yesterday evening with an Ogre Doombringer. It took me 12 or 15 tries just to get to level 8 without dying twice (I restart if I lose more than one life before 12). I just could NOT get the hang of vim, or being so defenseless in the opening levels.

Once I hit 10 things really started to pick up, and once I hit 16 and got into the fortress I was made in the shade. I threw on a full set of black gear, and being an Ogre meant I could use the Black Wall and the Black Maul at the same time. That felt exactly as good as it should have, and I kept most of the black gear on all the way to the last fight.

Highlights include taking down the Multi-Hued Dragon room, and dying to the Fortress Boss when my '6' key got stuck and I ran into him a million times.

This is win number 6 (on normal), but I've noticed all my winners are melee bruisers. I think I need to try something that's exclusively ranged. Archemage maybe?

Try Archer or Temporal Warden. Both are more fun and forgiving than Archmage.

Yeah temporal wardens are great.

Gunslingers are fun too. You need Embers of Rage for that; I dunno whether you have it. You'd also get the orcs campaign that way.

I also enjoy playing as a doomed. Shadows are like the summoner's animal friends, only more fun in most ways. And you get some interesting and unusual ranged attacks. Also, the cursed aura talents are strange and powerful.

Please note: Doomed may seem... weird at first. But if you get used to it, it's really fun imo.
To be honest, it's probably my favorite class.

(If you want to go the "because why not" route, try Doomelf Doomed with the Range Amp Device prodigy)

True story, my first win ever was on a Temporal Warden. I'm not sure what it was, but the ability to move so seemlessly between melee and ranged just "clicked" with me. I was able to zoom through the game, as compared to my previous characters.

And I just got win this evening on Archmage! I started a skeleton Archmage and mage it all the way to the end without having to restart the character. I went wildfire/storm (for the most part), and had a really good time.

I'm thinking of trying an Archer (to make use of all the bows I have stashed), but on a higher difficulty this time. Thanks for the input!
