YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
... alright.
So here I am, a level 38 Skeleton Archer (Normal / Adventure), just heading to crush the Prides. I encounter an orc ambush, which I cannot avoid, but should be no trouble, right?
One of the orcs is a rare, with slightly below 1000 maxHP, so I carefully aim my Vital Shot at him, and fire. The next thing I see is Eidolon. WTF just happened??
Well, that rare bugger casts Bone Grab on me, and pulls me towards himself.
Right in front of my Vital Shot.
Boom. One hit kill, "by accident of course".
Seriously, this has to be _the_ most stupid and hilarious death that ever happened to me, all the way back from b34 when I started playing. Well, I still have two lives left, maybe I can still win this one.
Darkgod ... you bastard.

If this is the most stupid death you had, it means you don't play enough archers because it happens all the time :p
Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
Well, you are probably right. It has just happened to me the second time with the same character ...Mordy wrote:If this is the most stupid death you had, it means you don't play enough archers because it happens all the time :p

One thing I love about TW is the way I can get in, stabbystabstab and get out before my arrows arrive.
Yes. ArrowS.

Aaaaand to top this all off, lesson learned: Never ever shoot point blank at someone who knows Shattering Shout at level 5. Third suicide of the same character

Don't worry, this is a classic, pretty much everyone who's done archer with vital shot has had it happen

Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
Yep, this is why I never take vital shotdadito wrote:Don't worry, this is a classic, pretty much everyone who's done archer with vital shot has had it happen
MADNESS rocks
Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
Well, this can easily happen right at the start with only Steady Shot. As a Skeleton, for example, there are bonegrabbers right in your starting area. So I believe the trick is not in skipping Vital Shot, but in knowing whether the monster has Bone Grab, Abduction or something similar available, and be double careful about these monsters.jenx wrote:Yep, this is why I never take vital shotdadito wrote:Don't worry, this is a classic, pretty much everyone who's done archer with vital shot has had it happen

Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
Using a bow with increased projectile movement speed is also helpful.
Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
It reduces the odds but it'll still happen now and then.
I suggest using the quiver of light thing instead :p

Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
No matter what you do, if you're using a projectile with less than infinite travel speed, you're potentially in danger. One of my Paradox Mages, back in the old days, died in maybe the best way ever. I had used Turn Back the Clock, which, for those who don't remember it, casts 2 slow projectiles, potentially at different targets. I don't remember the exact circumstances or talents that the enemies used, but somehow 2 enemies managed to teleport me directly into the path of BOTH TBTC projectiles, one after the other, over two consecutive turns. Of course, they critted.
The Eidolon gave me a bro-fist for that one.

You may want Slow Motion with an Archer. The sustain cost is huge, but it'll save you many times over. Rapid Shot, no Aim.
Re: YASD - Bonegrabbed right in front of my Vital Shot
Oh, I had that one. The problem is that (IIRC) the talent only slows projectiles from enemies - and not your own.chandl34 wrote:You may want Slow Motion with an Archer. The sustain cost is huge, but it'll save you many times over. Rapid Shot, no Aim.

Ah you're right, it must've been Rapid Shot that was always saving me, along with regular speed arrows.Zicher wrote:Oh, I had that one.
