First Win--Yeek Solipsist

#1 Post by Narilera »

Yay. First win. I have finally unlocked the super cool reward for beating the game. After...like..two years playing and rage-quitting after every death. Had a nasty game crash on floor 8 or 9 of high peak that set me back to floor 1. Then I lost another life getting back up there as I rushed through everything in frustration. http://te4.org/characters/29858/tome/61 ... 584c6aeee8

All of my deaths were from silly lack of attention, or insufficient time put into getting adequate escape mechanisms.

Honestly: I was carried to about level 35 with almost no deaths by one incredible item: The Untouchable. I died several times before I got this item, but after it was equipped I was deep into the far east and almost to high peak when I died next. The shields that thing can give you are insane. I've seen it top 1000 point clutch shields.

This was the first time I tried to build a Solipsist from the dream hammer skill tree. previously I'd tried to go into distortion and psychic assault. What a mistake that had been.

the pure damage from dream hammer is unlike anything I've seen before on any class: You hit for 1500+ later on per hammer skill and you simply don't have any noticeable cooldowns thanks to dream smith's hammer. I was ripping through the 10k+ hit point bosses in less than 10 turns. The damage was unreal, and I could just keep dealing it constantly. I honestly don't know if the damage was legit or if there was some bug I am unaware of; It was that kind of high. A bit of a rough early game though. Without The Untouchable I doubt I would have made it to the east or survived the orc prides. I only switched it out with crimson robe around level 42.

I feel that this character shouldn't have been as strong as it was. I know that my prodigies were totally non-optimal and I didn't put nearly enough thought into the gear or stats. I highly suspect I was carried by the insanely strong late game of this class.
for my prodigies I took:

1. Eye of the Tiger. I was never sure exactly how much it helped. It may have been amazing, or...not. I think there were better options in retrospect.

2.Mental Tyranny. Good damage increase. By the time I Got it I felt like I was practically immortal. And that was almost true. Solipsists get ungodly hard to kill later on. Again, probably would have been safer taking defensive prodigies. This one worked out well though.

High peak bosses were a breeze. A few scary turns where I was blinded twice, but I was able to cleanse them. I got close to the corrupter boss, popped my regen and shields, then bursted him to death before they ran out. I don't know how many turns exactly. Less than 10(like I said above, the damage my hammers were doing was unreasonable.) I then just used movement infusion and to close into melee and killed the other one without any issue.

The sheer brute DPS of the hammers cannot be denied. That skill tree is INSANE.

It actually works pretty well with distortion, what with it doing physical damage and distortion reducing resistances for that...
Ghoul never existed, this never happened!

Grats !

I fully agree with your assessment. Dream hammer can hit hard and it is not a bug. Moreover it is a 'normal' attack so it can be buffed with greater weapon focus and it can apply various debuffs (silence, blind etc)

Distortion is great crowd control tree and first skill can hit extremely hard but it is an AOE skill so it is nowhere close dream smith attacks. Good combination of phys dmg / crit multiplier / willpower / mindpower allows to attack for more than 10k in SINGLE hammer toss. My last solipsist attempt is able to hit for about ~14k in training room and his gear could be significantly improved. Ofc you almost never see so high numbers in real game because most of the time mobs have less than 10k hp.

Biggest problem for solipsist is not lack of raw power but lack of +phys penetration. Trash often dies from single hit but bosses with 50%-100% resist all can be a problem :/

For all distortion fanboys i made a sshot. If you got distortion you REALLY should take dream smith tree as well ! :-)

btw Before someone says "use night terror to reduce target resistance". Night terror is bugged. When you kill something with one strike returning hammer can 'kill' night terror just after it appeared. Instead of simply disappearing it will stay on map with 0hp causing various bugs that can kill you.
