First win! Skadi the AM Thalore 'zerker

#1 Post by snoop »

Well, after playing this game off and on since somewhere around b34, I'm delighted to report my first win!

http://te4.org/characters/7776/tome/75f ... e9ced15543

I really wanted a character that would do well in the late game, after getting to the Prides with a TW some time back and finding myself rather overmatched. So I chose a berserker. The decision to go AM was sort of a last-minute thing, but I found both Nature's Blessing and Skullcrusher in Daikara so I went for it just before Tempest Peak. Spellcrusher's shield clearing power sure made Urkis, the Weirdling Beast and the Master much easier than they've been for me in the past!

There were of course a couple of deaths along the way; I'm not quite ready for roguelike! A dumb one to a Guardian in the ruined dungeon. Probably the toughest fight in the game was a Worm that Walks at the bottom of Dreadfell, he got me once but I eventually wised up, equipped a blazebringer I was carrying around and managed to take him down. I'm just glad I was able to deal with it before running into the Master just after opening the next door! Dealing with both of them at once would not have been much fun. Then the boss in Reknor got me once too, probably avoidable but also really bad luck; think he critted twice in one turn and took me down from 700 life or so.

As soon as I got to the east my priority was Legacy of the Naloren. I had exotic from an escort already, so once I hit 30 and got the prodigy I had 7 in exotic and one kick-ass trident. Throw in a whole pile of free cunning from gear and my crit rate was great. Pumped up heal modifier a bit, and I was pretty much unstoppable; with a couple of crits Bloodbath would give me around 50 regen. If I did get in any trouble, pop regen and I was recovering over 200 a turn! And If *that* wasn't enough, pop Sudden Growth and I'd be right back at full life. By then most anything I was fighting was well dead. Good times.

Only other death was when The Crusher Fearscaped me. That was just unfair! I 'ported past him and kept going.

Other fun stuff:
- "saved" all my escorts! Got really lucky there, lots of easy runs and berzerkers are already well-suited to escort duties if you can stay ahead of your "friend". And the last two in Dreadfell didn't actually spawn until I returned to loot a vault I'd left alone.
- Used the Snow Giant Wraps and Mighty Girdle for almost the whole last half of the game, and enjoyed the image of my Amazon giantess pitchforking anything in her path... :) Almost took You Shall Be My Weapon as my second prodigy, just because, but decided Giant Leap would be more useful.
- *Finally* saved the damn yeek!
- The last fight was really fun; fair but tough. Some close calls there!

Minor blahs:
- The boss in the Shadow Crypt never summoned my shade, so still haven't unlocked Doomed.
- Because I went AM I have nowhere near the MAG to equip the staff, so still can't read all the Sher'tul stuff... bummer. So I think my next attempt will be back to an arcane-ish class just so I can do that.

Anyways, thanks again for such a great game! I hope to find the time one of these days to learn enough Lua to contribute in some way.

You know that once you get a point in exotics, you can buy them up to 5 normally? So, you can get 10/5 with trident?

Yeah but I would have had to save a bunch of generics before getting the prodigy to do that. I remember putting one in at level 28 or 29 to get to 2, but then I figured the limited returns on 3 extra points to have 10 instead of 7 wasn't worth the hassle of waiting to gain a couple more levels. Besides, there's lots of other great generics to spend points on if you go AM.
