Time to throw myself on your tender mercies...

#1 Post by azrael »

Hey all. I finally unlocked the solipsist class after downloading the latest patch from Darkgod a few days ago. It took me 17 characters and 5 months (not all of which was spent playing TOME, admittedly), so when I got the class, I went a little crazy.

http://te4.org/characters/17431/tome/41 ... fcde0d72cd

That's my character right now.

And I have no idea what I'm doing.

I think I just wanted to try everything a little too much, because there are about a million talent trees and my talent points feel really spread out. The character feels powerful, but really unfocused. More relevantly, I'm about to finish the Temporal Clone escort quest on Dreadfell, and don't know what to ask for as a reward or what I should be aiming for as a prodigy. I could go antimagic, but I'm not sure I have the generics to spare and I don't want to miss any really good arcane items (not to mention my only method of escaping a vault is a teleportation rune)

So here I am. Help?
Step One: Redux
Step Two: Paradox Clone
Step Three: Watch game go insane.

In the short term, at least, any idea what I should ask for regarding the Chronomancy escort? The options are things like two chronomancy talents, access to a chronomancy, magic stat boost, etc., but I have a Magic score of ten and am strongly considering going anti-magic.

I had a solipsist that would have beaten the game with, but the game crashed on me. But a couple builds ago, the Inner Demons spell was completely OP on bosses. You can also get an amulet that lets you cast Inner Demon too. Distortion tree wasn't very good, and maelstrom is suicide (why would you want enemies to get closer to you?). Psychic Assult tree (mind tree, psychic lobatomy, synaptic static, and sunder mind) is really good, and works perfectly with the Nightmare tree. For bosses, I would use (sunder mind + sleep/nightmare/slumber + inner demon) to generate a bunch of boss clones, and the clones would proceed to beat the boss down. I would just run away and let the clones do all the work. Synaptic Static was a 6 (or was it 8 ) radius spell that did a ton of damage. And all of the spells caused brain lock. I found the new psionic/slumber tree to be completely useless after the change, but having one point in slumber was useful.

tldr;
psionic/psychic assault = useful; increase mind sear, synaptic static, and sunder mind
psionic/solipsism = very useful, get lvl 4 solipsism and max out the other 3, especially Dismissil skill
psionic/thought forms = depends on the build, I found them too weak later because they were getting one-shotted
psionic/discharge = depends on the build, calculations show the dmg is really high
psionic/slumber = now almost useless after the change to Restless Night. one point in slumber is useful
psionic/nightmare = useful. one point in nightmare, max out inner demon and waking nightmare. you don't need night terror because you won't be attacking people in their sleep
psionic/distortion = suicide spells, get if you want to kill yourself

solipcist are really "tanky" due to how much hp they have and their skills. They have a skill to reduce all damage by 50%, and a shield to further reduce damage by 50%. They have a ton of "life". Right now, your lvl 30 solipcist has about 1000 hp and their feedback lets you regen a lot of it back. I'd go with anti-magic + fungus skills, max out the feedback tree and get Lucid Dreamer. Just turn off Lucid Dreamer if you're hit with inner demon or something, or use an infusion.

Thanks :)
I guess I'll just keep on more or less the same level-up path, although I might change some things based on what you said about the solipsism tree. (btw, Maelstrom is targetable, has range 10, and is very effective for keeping enemies away)

I suppose I'll just ask for some bland bonus from the escort, dump premonition and rune of the rift/teleportation rune, and go antimagic.

Distortion is actually really good. No idea why would anyone think it's a suicide tree.
<darkgod> all this fine balancing talk is boring
<darkgod> brb buffing boulder throwers

Probably missed the change where the tree got a way to not friendly-fire.

I still found it okay before that change, but it was really easy to shiv yourself for 400-500 irresistibly with Distortion Bolt before that. Unpleasant.
