[SVN] Dwarf Wyrmic Roguelike winner

#1 Post by phantomglider »

My first Roguelike win makes me very happy, although it seems I can't get myself to win with anything but a dwarf. Acid Drake tree and the Bellowing Roar change are amazing and make Wyrmics a million times more fun. As I was playing SVN (a slightly old version from about this revision) this character is not on the site, and the character dump option causes a lua error.

The build:

Cat points go into 2 inscription slots, unlock Higher Draconic, and boost Fungus.

5/5 in swallow, sand breath, bellowing roar, devouring flames, lightning speed, tornado, acid spray, corrosive mist, acid breath, poison breath, and the higher draconic damage+penetration boost. 4/5 in the higher draconic melee+burst. 1/5 in all prerequisite talents.

5/5 in Power is Money, thick skin, healing touch, the take-wildgifts-off-cooldown, the fungus sustain, and Ancestral Life. 1/5 in the necessary prerequisites, the dwarf walk-through-walls, and the fungus heal-based-on-regen. 4/5 in armor training. 5/5 in combat accuracy and weapon mastery, but they were literally the last things I leveled up and I spent most of the game with them at 1/5.

Prodigies were Spine of the World and Irresistible Sun.

This character played as an extremely tanky caster. I had a good regen infusion with 13 cooldown that healed for about 600 HP; my heal mod generally hovered around 140 or higher, and it combined with Fungus tree and my high HP to make me incredibly difficult for anything to kill. By the final fight my healmod was up around 200% and my healing could keep up almost completely with Elandar's blasting; I was only obligated to run away one or two times briefly while Argoniel was still alive.

Equilibrium was just short of being a big deal for most of the game, much of the credit for which can be laid at the feet of Ancestral Life. Popping the regen and then firing all my attacks in sequence generally shot me up to around 80-ish equilibrium; from there I could either wait for cooldowns to rotate or fire the turn-off-cooldowns talent, which would put me up into ranges where I'd start having failures. Swallow was a great help in these circumstances. Large groups melted before my myriad of area-of-effect damage abilites, especially if they were clumped on one side of me like a pit. My biggest weakness was single tough enemies with good spike damage - my Blood of Life got used up against Massok, before I got Spine of the World, and there was an Eternal Bone Giant Paradox Mage Anorithil high peak stair boss that I just ran from.

I never got the book for the Limmir quest, which is sad because I had a blank voratun amulet and the Goedalath Rock.

The final fight was a bit bugged. Aeryn didn't spawn, and neither did any of the summoning portals generate anything. This was highly annoying, since I had expected to be able to use Swallow to restore equilibrium every so often.

Also, Summertide (the new shield) doesn't have any armor or defense values so it just gives you +0 to both, and Irresistible Sun doesn't go on cooldown when you use it.
<Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.

How good is Spine of the World? What exactly does it protect against?

Prodigy: Spine of the World

Your back is has hard as stone. Each time you are affected by a physical effect your body hardens, for 5 turns wil become immune to all physical effects.

[sic] - copied from the SVN.
