[b41] Dwarf Doomed Ragequit

#1 Post by XLambda »

I heard Dwarf Doomed were easy and wanted to give them a try. Early game wasn't too bad, the entire west was pretty easy. Then I got east, did random stuff (spider cave and breeding pits were pretty easy) and ended up in the Vor Armoury on lv33.

At that point, according to the many tales, this char is supposed to be so powerful it can easily clear the Room of Death. I psychoported away before the wyrms could quadruple-breath me, and hid in a small room, fighting the various drakes and hatchlings one by one until one of the wyrms showed up. Sure enough, he (it?) killed me easily.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this char. I did my best, but I'm neither an experienced nor a good player. If they're supposed to be so OP, then I must have done something wrong.

EDIT: Okay, so this is the lv31 save, apparently since my bug it hasn't updated the char sheet. Not that it would make a difference, it's only two levels earlier.

As I said in another Doomed character topic-I don't really think they're OP, just good.

Your build isn't really a dragon slayer one-Unseen Force is a really good one on one damage skill, and AM means that you don't have Shieldings, so that you have a harder time dealing with the huge damage from the Wyrms early. You would have been better off trying it out later. But, no, it's not really a huge difference, I think.

On the other hand, it's risky at L33 with the best of classes. There is no class that can simply kill every enemy without risk.

I don't there's anything outwardly *wrong* with your build, but a few things could help...namely, I think more investment into the last two skills of Dark Sustenance. That's more resist for you, less for them, more power for you, less for them, etc,....makes a bigger difference at even 1 point investment than you might think.

Like SageAcrin said, maybe wait until a bit later. I did that at a similar level on my Dwarf Doomed I think, but I also had a large wealth of active talents from items to use. I'd pretty much send a Blast in the vault as much as I could, and whenever something came out, I'd put a Feed on it and fry it with Aletta's Diadem. Damage reduction from feeding off it is pretty good, you're only getting hit by it, and I also tend to max Resolve/Antimagic Shield (or both).

As in all things, caution is key. I still stand by the fact that a properly built Doomed is unkillable by most things in the game, but ONLY if you play with the appropriate caution.

I'll also add in that Doomed have imho one particular skill:

The ability to be halfway competent in whatever your opponents weakness is.

When defesting the room of Doom on doomed *before* bugfixes, I heavily abused LoS. Abuse creeping dark and hateful whisper (? I may've mixed up that name), dark tendril pins where you have LoS and they don't, and sending shadows out.

Remember that if you're not their active target, and you can see them but they can't see you, feed off of them *without* causing damage. You can refill your entire hate bar that way without passing yourself off as the target, then send some shadows in.

You should be fighting the contents therein the room 'o doom one on one ideally, two on one at worst, and without you being targeted as much as possible. I can usually manage over 80% untargeted with hyperfocused play. If you go under half health, GTFO.

A quick explanation of my ideal tactic:

Code: Select all

SD

@#
you have LoS on dragon, it doesn't. Hateful whisper is echoing around the interior room behind the dragon. IF the dragon appears to be ready to start moving again (AKA, no shadows in his LoS, you're targeted) you may get lucky with a dark tendril pin. May. You also may get lucky with that dark beam forget target attack. May. Do both. WHEN you are low on hate, abuse this situation to feed to full hate whilst having shadows OFF, and then cut them back on to start back into the fight. Enjoy, and ideally don't EVER go below half health IF you've been investing in Con.

Goodluck!
