[b37] Bob VIII the sling/shield/striking Skeleton Bulwark

I decided to make an unconventional build, and this is what I came up with: A Bulwark that focuses on Defense, that punches enemies. I also wanted to test out some addons in a full playthrough and get a character at least to the East this Beta, as it's been a while since I played a serious character.

This build focused primarily on Dexterity, which meant that a Skeleton would be the best race by far, and it evolved to include a sling, Rapid Shot, and later Precise Strikes and the Light tree as main parts of the character.

I focused on Dexterity throughout the game, as it boosted accuracy, natural defense, as well as Shield Wall, and other talents. This allowed me to stay ahead of most enemies, and they could not hit me at all. If they did hit me, I had enough armour to
nearly negate the damage. Another dexterity synergy with this class was that it boosted damage of melee attacks as well.

Most of my damage throughout the early game, up to the start of Prides was due to damage-on-hit effects from Rings of Blasting and other sources. This meant that the +55% attack speed bonus from Rapid Shot meant nearly +55% damage per turn (althoug the damage penalty is almost never significant). Around the start of the Prides, the balance tipped, and I switched to focusing on boosting the base damage of the attacks, and started using Precise Strikes, as the 10% slower attack speed was worth it for some crit rate.

I rarely used my sling for attacking, instead using it for the bonuses that it provided my character. The bow-ego expansion addon made this useful, and gave a diverse range of choices. Using it also showed me which parts needed to be nerfed as well as illustrating gaps that could be filled. The sling was, however still useful in niche situations. It softened up enemies as they approached (if I remembered), and it killed dying enemies as they fled.

This character also used many addons, as follows:

- Sustain Protection alteration (starting in the Master fight, one turn after it would've been useful)
- Inscription Expansion (though I never used any, being undead)
- Inspect Enemy EQ (handy, but not very powerful)
- Shadowstrike Alteration (also not used, I didn't have the skill)
- Bow Ego Expansion (made sling choice meaningful)
- Non-Leveling Towns (starting with the East)
- Wands (in tool slot and recharge. I carried a bunch, but never used them)
- Amulets of Mastery (I found three, but none boosted a good category)
- Gem Bomb Alteration (not an alchemist)
- Glove Stats (essential)
- Stable Sandworm Lair (nice, it made it quicker without removing the feeling for me)

The Fights: (Prides and onward)

I was remarkably resilient in all of the Prides, helped by having 4 shields, a couple of heals, and good resistances.

Vor Pride was my first one. I had the Fiery Choker and 70% Fire resist at this time, meaning that I could simply ignore the Pyromancers, instead picking off the Cryomancers, cutting my danger greatly.

Undead Pride was also quite easy, as I could mostly ignore summons due to my DEF, and pick off the corruptors and Blood mages. It helped that I had the Sanguine Shield for Blight resistance.

Wyrmics Pride was the easiest. I could completely ignore summoners, as their melee summons couldn't hit me, Spiders couldn't poison me, and flamespitters and drakes didn't damage me.

Berserkers Pride was harder, as some enemies, especially the random bosses, had enough accuracy to hit me, and the bosses hit quite hard, even through armour.

High Peak was quite quick, as I decided I didn't care about 100% completion, and ran for the stairs, bypassing a few of the more difficult guardians.

The Final Battle was moderately hard. I left the Dragon portal open, but closed the others. This provided distractions, blocks, and AoE damage against the Sorcerers, while the fire dragons actually healed me (due to 70% resist fire, >100% heal mod, and often Healing Nexus as well). I killed the melee one first, havinf enough DEF to avoid and riposte many attacks, then the mage was easy, if time consuming and invisible.

Atamathon: I had enough DEF to avoid 80% of its attacks, and the rest were half absorbed by my armour. I still had healing due to fire and 4 shields/2 heals, so I never got into too much trouble with the fight, though I did need to phase door and cool down once.

And there you go, a shield/sling/striking Skeleton Bulwark.

A few days ago I had the same Idea of using rapid shot enhanced unarmed attacks, nice to see it put to work.
