[b34] Mjolnir (Dwarf Sun Paladin)

#1 Post by Sundance »

So... I was in the last fight and my computer blue screens. I thought "Oh lets just jump back- what the..." Save file apparently deletes at some point during the last fight or something. Oh well. I'm a winner in my own mind.

My build was:
Dwarf:
1/1/5

Combat Technique:
1/5/1/5

Shield Offense:
5/5/5/1

Combat Training:
5/10/1/1

Guardian:
1/5/5/5

Chants:
1/1/5/5

Light:
5/1/5/3

Combat:
5/5/1

Sun:
1/5/1/5

Build wise I think I had a fantastic set up. Martyr was a godsend on bosses and wyrms. The 2 sun skills I maxed (Blinding Light and Sunburst) were my main battery skills for light energy, so I maxed them. If I have to use them, then I ought to make sure they can do a spot of damage at least.

As for shield skills, Assault was unimpressive. Since the weapon strikes were not effected by the scaling of the skill level, it was not worth investing in. However the other skills in the tree do some pretty crazy damage. I hit over 1500 per turn pretty regularly. Rush was also a great investment and I ended up having -13 turns to it's cooldown so it got used a lot. The only issue was the insane stamina cost. Even with 380 stamina end game I ran out pretty fast.

Shield of Light was pretty much useless. The heal scaling is meh and the cost is horrendous. Occasionally useful in early game, but post-Dreadfell I never touched it. Brandish is great. If you play a Sun Paladin, definitely max it. Retribution I used as a way to counter dreads and other annoying invis+high defense characters. Second Life didn't get used much, but it saved my life a couple times.

As far as chants go, Resistance was far and away the most helpful one. Light was fine in easy places, made stuff die a bit faster, but honestly a waste overall. It just didn't get the play time 5 skill points should get.

Combat and Light trees were pretty basic. Wave of Power was more of a finisher when Vor Pride crap was running/phasing. An anti annoyance skill. I imagine when maxed it could be a substantial gain in power. And had I done "Arena" Providence would have been maxed.

Healing Mod was 232%
Stats were
Str 103, Dex --, Con 113
Mag 87, Will 43, Cun --
All resists were 50%+

Weapon was a randart mace with 51 slime/51 temporal damage on melee.
Shield had a bunch of resists, Ice on damage, and 50% healing

Overall it was a really enjoyable run. I wish I had gotten to finish it and post everything, but I didn't so I guess I'll have to win with another character.

I died a few times pre-east thanks to me being over confident in Shield of Light (nigh worthless skill). Should have just been smarter.

Orc Prides were pretty easy, except for Necro (lost 2 lives there). That was mostly a patience game. I'll admit to stair scumming in a couple opening sections. 6 Necros and their summons all at once is pretty stupid and master archers be imbalanced.

Vor Armoury was simple. RoD got cleared. I opened only one door, corner humped and threw martyr out like a boss. Rocking an awesome shield rune, and 2 really good regen runes, I could focus most turns on healing and occasionally attack. Most of the DPR was done by riposte.

High Peak cost me another life. Archmage/Brawler/Arcane Blade/Doomed that did 800~ every round. I can deal with spikes really well. But 130 defense/110 armor and 800 DPR is insane. So I snuck by with a move rune and skipped him.

No shade fight or Mark of Spellblaze.

Overall nothing was particularly challenging. Mostly a battle of attrition and all my deaths were my own mistakes except the one on High Peak.

If you would actually post your character dump [go to character screen, press d - and it tells you where it saves the dump to] - or link to the character from the vault - it would make reading the character much easier.

And, can you tell us more about the blue screen/save wipe in a separate thread in the bugs forum?

I couldn't find any character profile at all on my computer. I looked through it and the only reference I could find was my Blood of Life Revive mentioned on the Hall of Fame.

Vault character stopped updating at like 40~ and I couldn't figure out why so I deleted it off my profile, thinking it would update.

It isn't that big of a deal to be honest. I'll try to type up a sort of report for the bug forum.
