My character came back from the East, and had a confrontation with Snaproot. However, it appears that in his desperation, he accidently killed himself.

I think it is more likely that you are seeing this bug (http://forums.te4.org//viewtopic.php?f=42&t=24931) and killed Snaproot with your life leech down there at the bottom. I move for your sentencing!

Is this the same problem of targetted attacks, in which the target is chosen, and the attack made, but not as one fluid moment :?:

No, the issue is how the log is currently condensing all the damage you deal into one nice long line. It is collecting all the damage you do and delaying writing until the end of your turn... which is after you have killed the beastie. DG is aware of it.
