Process is extremely likely to freeze when defocused
This is an important and lingering freeze bug. When you defocus the process and then later refocus (alt-tab, clicking on other programs, etc.) you are likely to come back to a frozen game, especially if you've spent a few minutes outside of it. If you then de/refocus the process again, the screen is black. I had this happen twice in the span on an hour just now in b42. DarkGod, do you have any clue how to solve this?
Re: Process is extremely likely to freeze when defocused
I had this bug too, I worked around it by using windowed mode, and just making it full sized.
EDIT: I was using firefox too.

I haven't had this issue since I quite using Firefox and started using Google Chrome.

Suffering from this as well, I don't even have to wait. As soon as I change focus, the game freezes to death.
EDIT: No browser stuff involved in this. I don't have one running when playing.

Re: Process is extremely likely to freeze when defocused
From my own general experience (and actively using both as well as other browsers) this wasn't ever a factor in when I saw this freezing issue.edge2054 wrote:I haven't had this issue since I quite using Firefox and started using Google Chrome.
EDIT: Not finding what I said I'd dig up, so removed the comment.

It also happens when minimizing ToME. This is a serious problem for me...

OK, I think I've nailed it down. (Is this how anglophone people say it?)
Disabling shaders did the job for me. I can freely alt-tab and minimize without risking a freeze now. I've told DG in chat, but just in case someone checks this topic, this solution worked for me.
EDIT: Okay, so the game still hangs for a few seconds when re-focusing to it, but no outright freezes so far.

Re: Process is extremely likely to freeze when defocused
I've always had shaders off, and I get the occasional defocus hang.
Re: Process is extremely likely to freeze when defocused
I haven't had any hangs since I switched off shaders. I have no idea whether it fixes the problem entirely and for every one, but it does a lot for me.stinkstink wrote:I've always had shaders off, and I get the occasional defocus hang.
DG, perhaps you could look into this?
Re: Process is extremely likely to freeze when defocused
Alright people, I think I have some news about this.
I just installed ToME on my old Desktop system. It's really old compared to my laptop, but it has a (for its time) hi-end graphics card. Not only were any and all freezing issues gone as far as I could see, it also turned out that my laptop's puny graphics chip was unable to correctly render some effects (the font of life, for example).
I'm not quite sure what this means, but I hope it helps. I will be playing on this system from now on until DG can either fix this issue or provide alternatives my weakish laptop can handle.
