I've been trying to study the exact mechanics of cloning and when/why it happens, and I think I might have an answer.
Whenever an actor changes places with another actor in the same action as they cease to exist, it seems to create a clone.
For example, getting knocked back through an enemy, while dying, or a Rogue killing you with Swap's on-hit damage. Or a Minion/Bunny changing places with a Forgery of Haze before it disappears, or swapping places with a Golem as either you or he does something that gets you killed by counter damage.
The most reliable way to reproduce this behavior to study it is on the world map-putting two orc parties chasing you in a row, so that one Orc Party swaps places with the other and then moves to reach you, seems to inevitably clone it(The removal from the map in this case is the Orc Patrol ceasing to exist after it encounters you).
I'm curious if anyone knows of any exceptions that may not fall under this in some way.
