Windows XP crash on startup screen

Ok. After trawling through this forum for about an hour, I decided to give up and make an account.

First of all, I tried getting ToME to run on Mac OS X.5, but apparently it doesn't, so...

I moved on to the Windows XP partition. Downloaded, and, hey, it actually works! Fantastic! One problem, though. Here's a list of what happens if I click on each of the buttons:

New Game: Top right says Tales of Maj'Eyal: Age of Ascendency instead of T-Engine4 Main Menu. screen changes to what I must assume is the normal play screen. Apart from a lovely pillar and some grey spaces, the screen is black, with a white sliver at the bottom. Music goes off, window becomes unresponsive.

Load Game: Nothing. Flicks to New Game.
Player Profile: Nothing. Flicks to New Game.
Options: Nothing. Flicks to New Game.
Exit: Nothing. Flicks to New Game.

I have full mouse control, so it's not a duplicate of some of the other errors I've seen. I don't even get to Character creation, so it's not a talent-tab crash.

Basically, I'm lost, and I'm unused to things failing spectacularly on two different OSs. I'm trying to keep this as un-bilious as possible, since I've paid nothing for it, but I'm fairly irate (especially since the irc channel that gets thrown about is being a massive tosser, refusing to let me log in)

P.S. Most up to date version of ToME being used. The slime one.
