b42 - unremarkable cave bug getting quest from Fillarel

#1 Post by logris »

First, and most important. ToME is probably the most awesome game I have ever played to date. :D

Now, on to the details of this bug:

This is the first time I have made it this far in the game. I was mid 40's with a Yeek summoner. I entered the Unremarkable Cave, and I am wearing 'The Inner Eye' headgear, which makes me blind and gives me telepathy. Fillarel thanked me for saving her and told me o go see Aeryn, while some orc in the same area said, "Thanks for helping me kill the elf wench." Both were neutral, and that was that. I moved on, slightly puzzled, but figuring things would work themselves out later. MUCH later, I found out that I had missed an important quest here.

So, I got to the city and they wouldn't let me in, so I teleported inside and found some quest givers and continued to play a couple more weeks worth of ToME, after which I couldn't progress any further. After much research, I found out that this quest should have happened but never did. I went back to the cave, summoned a creature, intent on killing Fillarel to see if it would trigger something. I assumed control of the minotaur I summoned and initiated a conversation with her, which was different than my first one. This time, I selected 'Kill Krogar' and the orc went hostile.

Of course, my summoned minotaur could see, so maybe that had something to do with it. One more thing: There may have been a LUA error here the first time, but I can't remember for sure. A LUA error that I didn't report did happen once but wasn't logged in online. I couldn't get a bug posted because it disappeared when I tried clicking to copy the text.

Hope that helps!

Yup. That's a known bug with the Inner Eye. That's why the game's still officially in beta. It's probably going to be fixed in the next release (though I hear they're taking the Inner Eye out altogether).

I think you can progress from here if you fight your way into the Gates of Morning by killing Aeryn, but it's probably a better idea to just cheat your way past the bug. You'll want to add a file called cheat.cfg to T-Engine/4.0/Settings that contains nothing but the line

Code: Select all

cheat=true
Then you can hit Ctrl-L to bring up the Lua console. In there, type

Code: Select all

game.player.quests["strange-new-world"].objectives["helped-fillarel"]=1
and the game will act like you rescued the Sun Paladin. You won't get the unlock, unfortunately, but it will let you proceed with the story.
