[b31] Inscriptions not reading

#1 Post by budswell »

Hi,
When I walk into the inscriptions in the ruined dungeon, the message is not popping up. I am playing in ascii mode for the first time in case that makes a difference.

If you've read the notes before on a previous character, and visited the library in the fortress with your current character, the notes won't be read. Doing so gives you all the lore your previous characters have encountered, and the ruined dungeon hints are simply bits of lore.

Also, if you've read the notes once with your current character, you won't read them again by stepping on them -- you can hit esc or ? (shift-/) to bring up a menu that has something about 'lore' as a selection. The notes will be among the known lore, listed under ruined dungeon. Checking the lore is also a good way to see if you've already picked up the hints, somehow.

Hmm, I think the game should force a repeat message when re-reading the inscriptions. Otherwise it's quite unintuitive.

Oops, wrong forum section...
Anyway, I know they only pop up once, but they have not even done that before with this character. I guess I must have accidentally selected the lore in the library when I was there checking something else. Will double check when this guy dies and I have a new char.

Ah, you don't have to specifically select the lore from the library in order to 'acquire' it. When you open up the library, you receive the entirety of the lore that your previous characters have found, automatically. It all goes into your known lore list. If you opened the library and you've found the ruined dungeon hints with a previous character, then you picked up the hints again.
