Orc patrols on insane (trigger warning)

#1 Post by butthurt »

So I had myself a few wins on insane, I have a good idea on how to handle anything the game can throw at me in this difficulty (at least with my favorite classes) , except for those !@¨$# orc patrols. They'll catch you and right at the start of the fight you are already surrounded by 4 orc necromancers with guns and a sher tul. Yeah you ocasionally find some wimpy patrols, but good lord when they decide to screw you up they go all in. So far my only solution was outrunning them with extra move speed on the world map, doesn't seem like every character would be able to do that though unless I'm being an ignoramus.

So then, orc patrols on insane, what do? Accept and prepare to reroll? Don't know if this thread is on the right place cause there's too many sub forums.

I'm not really sure what kind of character doesn't have a movement infusion? That said, I think orc patrols are getting nerfed to 50% movement speed in 1.6, so this is an issue that has been acknowledged and will be dealt with.

Don't walk into them. A single movement speed item will make you faster than them, a movement infusion used before entering the worldmap makes you much faster than them, and a mindstar of sand used before entering the worldmap lets you run straight from Briagh's to Gates of Morning or vice versa.

Alternatively, you can walk into them and then use the movement infusion to walk to the exit and just leave. You don't have to actually fight them. You don't really even need to worry about being unable to exit because of a detrimental effect, because you can just use Relentless Pursuit.

Any undead character. I guess they have to find other solutions (e.g. rocket boots, skate or whatever).

Yeah I know about movement infusions on world map, they won't last long enough to get to some places though, like gates of morning to briargh. By that time I'm not sure you'd also have a movement infusion fast enough to be able to get from the start of the ambush to the exit fast enough. Maybe having 2. Still you're bound to find one or two psycho orcs with 200% global speed or something to catch you right? Or maybe I'm paranoid. Guess the movement item seems the most reliable. I did get one orc patrol right on my face on my last game after I left charred scar with no way to avoid it, I just went eyahh and killed them all cause chronomancers.

The sand mindstar seems fun and good though, I'll have to try that out.

(shrug) Meh, we've had this discussion before. My position on the matter, now as then, is that the right way to deal with orc patrols is to effectively make them reliably avoidable.
