An Apprentice Task (or Noob Alert!)

#1 Post by Junon »

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've crawled the wiki, read FAQs, and searched the forums but found nothing specific to my issue... which has me wondering if I'm missing a very obvious game mechanic or something.

My character has several artifacts with an arcane powersource, both equipped and in inventory, but this quest does not complete or update when I talk to the novice mage on the overworld map. The dialogue that pops up only has the "Talk to you later!" option indicating the quest is still in progress.

I am understanding "arcane artifact" to mean any item from this list with an Arcane power source. Is this not correct? Does he perhaps want arcane jewelry or some other specific item type?

Perhaps I need to do something to "give" it to him? That's not an option when I right-click the NPC and dropping items can't be done on the world map anyway.

So what exactly am I missing? I simultaneously hope and dread that the answer is something simple.

To reference the items I have, here's a link to my character sheet.*

Also, while I'm here wondering about this in the Spoilers section, does he keep whatever item I eventually give him or will it remain in my possession?

*this being my second character ever, I don't have much of a frame of reference but she seems to have gotten *extremely lucky* so far

It must be an artifact and it must be in your inventory (not equipped). Wintertide is the only arcane artifact you possess and it is equipped.

And no, you don't get to keep it! Since Windertide is rather useful you may wish to find a different artifact.

"Artifact" means the stuff in YELLOW letters.

You are 100% correct about the Arcane power source thing.

So basically, don't throw away anything YELLOW with an Arcane power source until you have satisfied the apprentice.

Good gaming!

You also have the Crystal Focus, which should be in the gems section of your inventory. The Focus is potentially useful, but summoners are probably the second worst class for it.

I wound up giving him some other rod I found while wandering around. Initially I was confused about the items with pink names, I thought they were also artifact quality.

Still feeling incredibly fortunate with this character so far - my second ever! Of course now that I've said that she'll die tonight...

The pink (salmon) items are "rares". They're dropped by monsters that are also called "rares". The rare items are far weaker than artifacts, and the rare monsters (which aren't really very rare at all) are typically weaker than full-fledged bosses, but they can still be very nasty.

Yellow items are standard artifacts. Orange items are random artifacts. I believe the apprentice will accept either of these. He will not accept salmon rares.
