Need advice, Charred Scar

On my first playthrough. Entered Charred Scar on my 30 archmage, ran south. Eventually the mountain path opens up onto a 3 tile wide walkway in a sea of lava. This path is blocked by a lava wall, and after a few failed attempts at phase door'ing to the other side, as well as walking into the lava (not allowed), I'm stumped.

I have about 140 turns left on the timer.

Did I go too far?
Should I just wait for the timer to run out?
Is it possible to go into the lava if I have some form of levitation? (I could probably unlearn a talent to learn levitation instead)
Something else?

There's a path through that blockage. Go down on one side, then diagonally toward the center.
