This might be a stupid question on my part; I haven't unlocked solipsist's yet, but could the psi damage actually be damage to your psi meter instead of your health meter?
Step One: Redux
Step Two: Paradox Clone
Step Three: Watch game go insane.

Yup. Psi damage is damage to your Psi resource. The exact percentage of Psi damage you take is determined by your Solipsism talent. If this percentage is 100% then you will only take Psi damage until all your Psi is gone. Your percentage was 85%.

The damage log isn't very good at reporting the last hit that 'actually' killed you. So your Psi got reduced to 1. The orc master assassin crit you, took away that last point, you took enough damage that you died, the log failed to report that bit.

There should be another line there before saving game that says Orc master assassin hits foo for blah damage, orc master assassin has killed foo, you have died.

ok fine, but why all of the damage was converted in psi damage?

i'm sure that my psi pool was empty, so i was taking psi damage at my health

It wasn't all converted into Psi damage.

The last hit removed your last point of Psi (the orc crits you, you take 1 Psi damage). The damage log sometimes doesn't display the very last bit because you're dead.

So after that 'you take 1 psi damage' there was another hit that would have said, you take blah physical damage. That's the hit that kills you. Unfortunately it didn't display.

Because the actual projectors damage is stored, added up, and displayed at the end.

Psi damage isn't displayed like that. Maybe I should look into changing it.

Basically you got hit multiple times from the orc (he dual wields and looks like he had a weapon with some melee project on it).

The game will take the result of all of this hits and store them for later so you end up with one line in the combat log.

Before that result is produced the Psi damage will be applied and displayed. Think of Psi damage working more like a damage shield. It's reducing the actual damage by the conversion ratio and lowering your Psi to account for it. It just happens to have a combat log message so you know how much Psi damage you're taking.

That log actually explains exactly what I'm talking about.

You get several lines of Psi damage and then one line of the rest (the total 58.91).

Next round you get several lines of Psi damage and then the one line of the rest doesn't show up because you're killed.

I'm going to remove those 0 reductions from the combat log to make things a bit more clear.
