Unlocking Marauder

#1 Post by Hunter »

I have a couple characters currently in the throes of bugs, so I figured I could use them to unlock things. The easiest -- or at least most accessible -- one right now seems to be the 600+ damage from a rogue. Three questions: 1) does it have to be a straight-up Rogue subclass Rogue or can it be a Rogue subclass Shadowblade? 2) Does the enemy have to be alive at the end, i.e. if I inflict 600 damage on an enemy with only 5 health, does that count? 3) How do I do it? I saw somewhere where the Darkgod said it would come naturally as part of a Rogue's progression, but I've been piling damage modifiers and skills on and still don't make it above the mid-100s. I'm not likely using the best weapons available in the game (bugs keeping me from advancing much further, to higher-quality zones) but it seemed implied that the natural 600 came from the rogue's own abilities, not on finding the right weapon.

Thanks.

You have to play as a rogue. I think it's OK if the enemy dies from the hit. The best way to do it is to crit with Venomous Strikes on a target with three active poisons. Attacks like Flurry don't count; it has to be a single hit. Otherwise you have to get into the late game (which I've yet to accomplish since all of my rogues have died to glitchy ice blocks...). It's probably one of the hardest unlocks.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

It needs to be a single damage source (eg. John Doe hits for 601 physical damage), and it doesn't matter if the enemy dies in the hit. It does need to be a "rogue" rogue, Shadowblades don't count. I unlocked it using a different method, around lvl 17. I stacked multipliers, and waited for a lucky hit with Whirlwind. My setup was to max Dual Weapon Training (including my cat point), Whirlwind, Shadowstrike, Stealth, and Knife Mastery, wear a dagger in my offhand and a sling in my mainhand (to prevent killing it early with lower damage). My setup was:

Willful Combat lvl 1 (+ some physical power)

Knife Mastery lvl 13 (214%)
Dual Weapon Training lvl 7.5 (133%)

Whirlwind lvl 6.5 (200%)
Shadowstrike lvl 6.5 (242%)
getting lucky with damage range (130%)
+ physical damage from mainhand sling (110%)

By stacking all of this together, you only need 50 physical power (including Willful Combat) and 75 combined DEX and CUN to get it. Your char sheet should show a damage of at least 94 for this to work.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I've trained both paths given here, so I'm probably going to have to find a middle ground (and get another category point.) I'm up to a max of just under 300 health a hit, so a whiles to go, but much better than I was doing before.

Er...I have a question...how do I get above level 10 in knife mastery, or more than 2 active poisons?

You have 1.3 mastery in Knives. You can have 2 poisons active at once, and get another on the target from a weapon that poisons (or switch active poisons between rounds).

Hmm. I think maybe my file is broken. I did it -- the exact line was "Sliver hits giant yellow ant for 646 physical damage" -- but nothing happened. I went to character creation and it's still locked.

Edit: And a 2nd time. "Sliver hits Isaranor the armoured skeleton warrior for 660 physical, 23 darkness damage (total 682.41)" This time, I was using only one dagger, in my off-hand, with nothing equipped as my primary.

Anybody have any suggestions? Is there a restriction on how the damage is dealt? I'm doing it while stealthed, using two poisons, Willful Combat, and delivering the blow via Deadly Strikes. I'm using Moon (for the extra damage) as my offhand and have tried both a sling and nothing as my primary. My I've loaded up on physical damage, physical power and critical multiplier items, eschewing almost everything that does any other types of damage (the darkness damage from Moon being the exception), and, as far as I can see, the 600+ is coming from one blow in one damage type (physical.)

No, there shouldn't be any restriction. I have no idea what the problem is; I'm guessing you haven't been getting the 600 damage achievement, either? You are playing with a recent (b33/34) version, correct?

1.0.0beta34, according to the folder. He's a skeleton, if that helps/matters.

Hunter, is this the skeleton rogue in question?

I find it very odd that no achievements are showing for that character. It doesn't even have the "Level 10" achievement, even though it is level 15 at the time I looked. Strange.

It was, yeah. though he's progressed since then. I've mentioned the lack of achievements elsewhere on these forums -- even ones I've clearly achieved, i.e thing got unlocked don't show up on the list. I asked if perhaps I should retry downloading, and if the problem would persist if I used my old save files with a new download, but nobody seems to have an answer for that just yet.

Your difficulty is set to easy and therefore unable to acquire unlocks and achievements I believe.

Only the latter. Achievements are blocked on "easier" difficulty, but unlocks are not.

He should have had the Marauder unlock then.

Try starting a new char and see if the option is available?
