Alchemist and Golem Questions
I've been playing for a while now, but I'm still quite baffled about how to know which armors and weapons a golem can be equipped with. It seems that the golem can use only two-handed weapons, such as greatmauls. Also, the golem can only use armor up to mail armor, correct?
Not only that, but I've found that really, the golem can use low-level versions of these items. (Steel and lower). This is great as far as the beginning of the game is concerned, but once the middle of the game comes around, it seems my golem's equipment is underpowered.
Is this the case, that golems can only use low level equipment? Or am I missing something?
(And, as a side note, I once maxed out on Runic Golem, but I couldn't add Runes through the Refit Golem dialog. I had to drop the runes, control the golem, pick them up and use them from the golem's inventory. This allowed me to inscribe an unlimited number of runes to the golem. I assume this is a bug?)

Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
Golem can use any suit armour it meets the requisites for, but your best bang for your buck is to probably use plate armour. Golem in fortifying plate armour of the dragon is next to unstoppable as long as it's alive.
As for weapons, it can also use any it meets the requisites for. At the start it can probably use up to dwarven-steel weapons.
Neat trick: As an alchemist, press F2. Surprise, you're in control of your golem, and can use its abilities listed in the pane on the bottom of your screen. You can also spend stat points and talent points it's accumulated by pressing 'G' whilst controlling the golem. Probably best to maximise str first, then magic, then dump the rest of your points in con as the golem. Seems to get quite a lot of health from you and your talents.

Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
Did you level your Golem up? ("G" while controlling it)? That could explain why you can't use very high level armours.

Hey, even I learn new things every day. Like how editing one's posts bypasses the notification that new posts have been made since I started typing. haha.
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
Ah... leveling my golem up was what I was missing. I feel kinda dumb about that one. Now I bet I could go a lot farther in the game
.
Why is the magic stat useful for your golem? I thought they were all physical.
Thanks a ton for your help.

Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
they have a magic tree, all mostly AOE or controlling the battle field flow. useful if you decide to use a melee alchemist, i guess...
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
Just a note about taking control of a minion [golem, in this case]: Be careful what your main body gets up to. My summoner likes shoving aside its minions to charge into highly dangerous combat.
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
Thanks for the tips. I've found that maxing out the Magma Skin (I think that's what it's called) and then increasing some physical abilities worked really well.
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
If you take control of the golem you can equip him with shields and a one handed weapon.
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
IIRC, the golem can also buy the archery and weapon skills from the last Hope trainer
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
While controlling the golem you can give orders to your Alchemist to change its behaviour.Aoi wrote:Just a note about taking control of a minion [golem, in this case]: Be careful what your main body gets up to. My summoner likes shoving aside its minions to charge into highly dangerous combat.
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
It can, but I believe its AI is not smart enough to actually use a bow or sling, even once it's learned Shoot.martinuzz wrote:IIRC, the golem can also buy the archery and weapon skills from the last Hope trainer
It'll also never use the activated abilities of its equipment, which is a pity.
Re: Alchemist and Golem Questions
You can also teach it interesting stuff by taking control of hte Golem when completing an Escort Quest (I just checked if this would work and mine now knows how to Disarm)
