orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
they are really nasty. my 33xl archer hardly can survive them, i killed a few, wasted my wand of healing and almost wasted a wand of teleportation (no way to recharge them, am i right?). i am sitting in gate of morning now and there are two orc patrols who is waiting for me on the world map >.<
and they even prefer me to sun paladin patrols, one orc patrol chased me for a long time while has being chased by a sun paladin patrol :3
i cannot understand how weaker classes can survive this so probably i do something wrong. i lured them to sun paladins but they often kill paladin patrols and there are few sun paladins anyway, unlike orcs. maybe i got to far east too early, hm, but they should scale to my level anyway iiuc.
so, what should i do? i didn't get the diamond atm (but i got the athame), but i can use rod of recall and get to my castle, then i can hopefully use a portal there or go back through lake nur (if it's possible) or i can risk and kill those two patrols but... if they are so tough it's just a matter of time before one of patrols kills me.

U can use the wand of recall only to gain lvls in far portals.kyuubee wrote:they are really nasty. my 33xl archer hardly can survive them, i killed a few, wasted my wand of healing and almost wasted a wand of teleportation (no way to recharge them, am i right?). i am sitting in gate of morning now and there are two orc patrols who is waiting for me on the world map >.<

As archer, I never had any problems with those patrols (except one that was nasty).
But I was skeleton and the bone shield took care of the first attacks and then it was just a matter of how fast they would die.
As stealth rogue, they are not much of a problem either.
Teleport and Movement Infusion to the stairs might work.

Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
Orc patrols used to be worse.
How to avoid them: anything that increases your movement speed. Boots of speed are enough to outrun them.
Dealing with them is a lot harder. Escaping is difficult, so I treat them like a boss encounter. Apparently, there's a quest (orc breeding pits?) that reduces the patrols on the world map. I finished the game without knowing about it. Then again, I avoided exploring the entire far east map due to the patrols...

Runes of Invisibility are also very useful for surviving tough situations like orc patrols. Dwarf_Hammer is also right: orc patrols used to be even harder (and I think more frequent)!

I bet you can if you use a wand.kyuubee wrote:>Teleport and Movement Infusion to the stairs might work.

Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
Well maybe they used to be harder, but they'd also disappear if you managed to get to a town or dungeon entrance. Why was that changed, anyway? Seems like people were already having a difficult enough time.
Anyway, my last character to make it east was a skeleton archer. Between shielding, invisibility runes, and really high damage (frequent crits over 1000), they weren't much of a problem. The character before that was a temporal warden, and I generally just avoided fighting and used his mobility talents to make it to the portal asap.

Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
It was changed because it was scummy, you were avoiding the patrols simply by standing on a dungeon entrance.
But yeah, to avoid/deal with orc patrols I usually kept nimble suit armour handy, as well as boots of speed, and chronomancer's staves as magic types, until I felt I could take them on. Usually needed to do most of the pre-go-back-west dungeons (spiders, underwater cave, birthing pit, etc.) before that happened. A lot of the time it's just sheer dumb luck on the ambush screen. Use those trees to your advantage! In general the order I used to survive was: blood mages, necromancers, summoners/grand summoners, mages, then mop up the rest. Blood mages before the summoning classes solely because of the disease capability and the way their damage tends to stack up fast. Summon classes are definitely after blood mages.

i survived, killed one of that patrols (hardly, i thought i was done), lured a bunch of orc patrols to paladins, got to briagh's lair, killed another patrol (relatively easy) and managed to get the diamond, returned to west (nearly died to atamathon then :3) and i am afraid of east now >.<

yes, i have boots of speed and i can outrun them but what for? if i cannot find a sun paladin patrol to kill orcs for me then i have little choice - either they will press me to sea/mountains/another orc patrol and force to fight them or i will flee to a dungeon/town and meet them when i am back.
>Apparently, there's a quest (orc breeding pits?) that reduces the patrols on the world map
oh, nice. what level is enough for that dungeon?
2 Tom
>I bet you can if you use a wand.
i guess, but not movement infusion. also you cannot flee to the world map with curse etc effects which they like to cast (and if you remove it with your wild infusion you cannot leave due to saturation :3).

oh, it doesn't matter then that they were harder to fight when they were so easy to avoid.

Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
In theory 30, but you'd probably be better off at 35ish. Depends somewhat on class as well. 32-35 for berserker and fighter.kyuubee wrote:>Apparently, there's a quest (orc breeding pits?) that reduces the patrols on the world map

Generally, I'd say 38ish. They'll always scale to your lev but by 38 you should have the ability to overcome whatever bad luck the RNG throws at you. I've lost 80% of my health to one just because there wasn't enough trees/rocks in the places I needed them. You can't really ever just Han Solo (first movie, screaming like a banshee down the hall) the patrols and expect that to work any better than it did for Han. But by the time I'd returned to the East with my last berserker, the orc patrols were more of a nuisance than anything else. But my good experiences in the East are pretty much fighter and berserker perspectives only.kyuubee wrote: what level is enough to take them without much risk?
Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
ok, i killed orc mothers (and feel guilty now ><) and cleared breeding pits, so hopefully patrols will be quite rarer but i have other questions and don't want to create separate threads
1) what level is ok to try orc prides? i read hirumakai's thread on this forum and it seems it's a really terrible place. is it a good idea to visit them now (i am lvl 37 or 38) just to leave immediately and have their first levels generated for my current character just to return being more powerful later on? (sounds scummy, i know :3 and i am not sure if it would work)
2) about respawned west bosses, being in last hope i was told that somebody ate last sand worms, i got there and killed a new boss. i suppose some other bosses respawned too but i have heard nothing else in last hope and, after i created the portal back to far east, i visited old forest and found nothing there on all 5 levels (i was told that i feel really threatened though) so, are there other new bosses except that sand wyrm and how i can find them?

1) The prides vary in difficulty, though none of them are easy. I completely several other quests before tackling the prides at level 45.kyuubee wrote:ok, i killed orc mothers (and feel guilty now ><) and cleared breeding pits, so hopefully patrols will be quite rarer but i have other questions and don't want to create separate threads

2) You can visit cities to hear rumors of new bosses. If you don't want to bother with all that then here are the locations of the new bosses:
...
The Maze, Old Forest, Sandworm Lair, Kor'pul, Dreadfell, Rekor, and Trollmire.
Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
thanks, but...
i killed the new boss of sandworm lair as i mentioned above and the new boss of reknor should be killed anyway for returning back to far east, but for the other places, i spent a lot of time in last hope waiting for rumors and i explored old forest and found nothing there but a threatening message. can it be that new bosses are not generated after you set the portal to far east in last hope or i should search better?

Are they always on the same lvl?Dwarf_Hammer wrote:

I found the first one I went for (old forest) but it took a while to find him (on lvl 3) as I ran through the whole forest with Z.
Now I ran thorugh the Maze with Z and I did not find the boss.
Are they spawned on random lvls or fixed?
Re: orc patrols, how to avoid/deal with
Fixed, I think. There's a spoiler page in the wiki that tells you what levels to look in.
I'm wondering if there's a bug with the backup guardians though. A couple days ago, I killed the new bosses for sandworm lair, old forest, and kor pul, but then none of the other bosses spawned. I looked all over the maze, daikara, dreadfell.....nothing.
So I then attempted to just move on with the quest after talking to everyone in Last Hope, but the new guy at the bottom of Reknor didn't appear. I ended up just using the Reknor portal to go back east and start doing the prides.
