scatter shot vs volley of arrows
Hi, just started playing my first archer after making it all the way to the blue wizards with an archmage and getting massacred. Can anybody explain the exact mechanics of scatter shot and volley of arrows? I sort of think I get it but i want to be sure. Also, any advice on leveling scatter shot? I learned (the hard, and also fatal, way
) that it can stun me, and I worry that if I put it to level 5 i will have a hard time not including myself in its aoe.

Re: scatter shot vs volley of arrows
Volley of arrows will fire a shot at every npc in the area of effect.
But it will be a normal shot, so you may not hit every npc you fire at. e.g. if you volley at two npcs in a line, the one in front will get hit twice and the one behind won't be hit at all. And it uses lots of ammo.
Scatter shot fires a single shot that hits everything in the area of effect. It's realy useful, so I recommend maxing it. Just be careful

Scattershot is the archer's version of Fireflash - and usefully the branding is preserved, so you can have e.g. Slimeflash. [Until a couple of betas ago, it was heaven because you could arrange to shoot through walls] Using the two together gives you quite a chance of not being overwhelmed by T4's dragons which breed like rabbits. The wyrm comes into LoS and before you know it there's a wyrm, three drakes and a dozen hatchlings - bummer, hatchlings are their armour. So get preemptive - send off the scattershot as soon as you see it/them (because if it, will probably be them anyway, before any arrow gets there), next turn a volley, next turn a piercing shot at the wyrm - after that, focus on the baddest first and keep your bow busy.
