Far East

#1 Post by Charlatan73 »

How do I get there? Looking to unlock some divine classes. I am assuming the sun pally stuff is a quest from there?

You need to kill the Master in Tol Falas in order to eventually get to the Far East. A major roadblock according to many so be prepared...

Don't want to open a new thread and since this fits the thread topic:

Should we implement a serious warning before stepping through the portal, that we are effectively NOT ending a dungeon here?
I would assume players (especially those used to the former betas) step through there planning on no serious hardships before they get a chance to resupply. With the spider caves stepped up in difficulty by several magnitudes, that is no longer the case.

I kind of thought the messenger catching up to you before you teleported was the warning. You know how often good npcs come after you in this game, and it's only when stuff gets really bad... I don't think anything additional is needed, plus, it kind of ruins the surprise of 'lost and alone' that the far east delivers.

yeah, also the description of the farportal clearly states you are not sure there is a way back.

Still on first stepping through I would have assumed i end up in a different but fundamentally similar environment with friendly towns and dungeons to explore (well, that or in an orc town, anyway).

I'm amazed that none of the inhabitants of the far east town is crafty enough to come outside with a vendor's tray when Aeryn blocks the entrance for you to sell you a basic assortment of potions at triple price :).

It might not be a bad idea for them financially, but they are a shop keep. Don't you remember what the Sun Paladin is? "We walk the dark places no others will enter. We stand on the bridge and no one may pass." The sun paladin IS the wall that is keeping that sorry shopkeepers ass alive, and a wall is only good at protecting you if it's between you and the enemy. I'd rather live in poverty than die trying to make 9 gold off of a lesser healing potion...

Indeed, the far east is not a very safe place to live in by yourself :)

That said, maybe the spider lair is overtuned now ?

Managed it twice so far with SBs, progressing 3 lvls from 30. It's several steps up from Moria now though, but a good preparation for the prides.

You might want to avoid creating drakes or wyrms there though, combined with spiders and the broad corridors there, the summoning is a bigger problem than usually.

I've only got to it once recently, as a pyromancer. I didn't even notice that it was harder...
(probability travel + inferno is rather powerful)

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the spider lair. The plot is just building steam, and it feels like a big road block. I've died there before due to carelessness because I just wanted to get it over with so I could get back to the game..

(if it were optional I would still do it, since the reward is useful)

Butsurely Aeryn can not let you come into her town like that :)
Maybe I can reduce it to 3 levels ?

I agree with Repton that the current implementation of the spider lair badly interrupts the flow of the plot. It's a horribly-timed commercial in the middle of a really good movie. I like the spider lair, just not where it is right now. Admittedly, Aeryn wouldn't want just any chump coming into her town. But if cleaning out the spider lair is a good enough test for her, then butchering the orc army in Moria and taking their Orb of Many Ways should also be a good enough test for her. The dialog might go something like this:

Player: I've recently come here from Middle Earth.

Aeryn: Might you know anything about a great disturbance among the orc prides that our scouts are reporting?

Player: [hold up Orb and orc leader's head] I believe I'm responsible for that. You're welcome.

Aeryn: I will bear your children.

Then the player could explore the town and find somebody who lost their cousin in the spider cave last week, and oh, wouldn't the great hero please go and find the lost cousin?

Having just done it, maybe finding the unremarkable cave and saving the Anorithil before entering the Sunwall could be an alternative to gaining Aeryn's trust?

Aeryn: How can we trust you?

You: I saved an... anorithil, I believe, from an orcish assailant. She told me I should come here if I require aid.

Aeryn: You know the Anorithils? Righty-dokey then. Wipe your feet.
